Default Jeff Maehl - In a few words

Wouldn't that be hilarious if Yates was the next Tom Brady and Maehl the Wes Welker?

Unlikely - but this is where we mainline the Kool-Aid.

Wes Welker - Texas Tech
259 receptions - 3019 yards - 21 TDs

Jeff Maehl

178 receptions - 2311 yards - 24 TDs * (For what it's worth, Maehl did not start a full season until he was a wise fool.)

Both went undrafted.

Quote:
At the NFL combine Jeff Maehl had a strong performance. He measured in at 6'1" and 190 lbs and ran a below average 40-time at 4.62 seconds. However, in the measures of quickness - 20-yard shuttle, 60-yard shuttle, and 3-cone drill - Maehl finished 2nd, 1st, and 1st respectively. Maehl's 6.42 second 3-cone drill was not only the fastest in this year's draft, but the fastest it has been run in 6 years.
It's funny, but looking at most scouting reports they have Maehl going anywhere from the 3rd round to the 7th. The consensus being a low 6th round pick.

Personally, I don't think he'll do much of anything, and I know a lot of factors went into dropping Mason and bringing up Maehl; nevertheless, who the hell knows with a season like this!

But secondly, how pathetic is Brynt Johnson?

I think we're about due for a spark at WR.

Maybe some Yates rubbed off on Jeff during their PS days.

I think it shows that he's explosive on his change of direction, which can allow him to separate himself on coverage to get himself open. The below avg. 40 may mean that he won't get a lot of YAC (unless that ability to change direction quickly can translate into missed tackles ala Foster). I'd like to be optimistic about him. We'll get to see though in 2 days!

Jerry Rice wasn't clock fast but has great football speed.

I am hopeful that Maehl emerges as a safe pair of hands and a 3rd down converter extraordinaire.

His load’s going to pick up a lot as far as special teams and knowing all the different positions he’s got to fill in at wide receiver, but he’ll be able to handle it.”

What everyone was expecting to hear, I assume. Good to know though. Maybe he will catch a ball or two this week.
