Default If You Are Kubiak, What is Your Strategy...

For the rest of the season. Do you go all-out and try to give Yates as much intense experience as possible by going with a heavy passing attack that will allow Foster and Tate to rest a little for the playoffs, or do you rely more heavily on the running game in order to protect Yates a little more, and keep defenses from seeing too much game film on him? Or would you rather have an even, healthy mix of both?

I would prefer giving Yates some heavy experience at the tail end of the season. Especially considering we are playing some weaker defenses now, I would want to try and give him a healthy dose of confidence heading into January.

Vugg it. Since Schaub is out and Lienart is down for the count it's his offense for the duration. He and the offense need to gel and we can sit back and watch.

If anything, I would be protecting Yates from unnecessary exposure. Nobody wants to see 90 year old Garcia out there in the playoffs.

Keep doing what you're doing. Yates had 44 passing attempts last Sunday, so it's not like they are putting a muzzle on the dude.

Except for possibly Carmella.

There might be a hefty life insurance policy, and the possibility of marriage to a heterosexual man in it for her.

You keep doin what you been doin. This team still has a lot to play for as far as home field advantage in the playoffs.

At the end of the day , its about putting yourself in the best position to win it all .... not just get there.

Also by going to a pass happy offense to rest Foster and Tate puts your QB at risk of more hits .... This team simply cannot afford another injury at QB.

Run the ball control the clock , mix in some play action and lean on the leagues #1 defense. Thats a recipe for success ....

Yep, keep it the same. Yates keeps the defense honest and gives Foster/Tate an unstacked box to run in.

Like everyone else it seems I keep the team playing the way we play. Change nothing and don't downshift. We're a younger team experiencing success for the first time. That can be a very difficult situation succeed in. Keeping them focused is going to be hard so keep pressing. We're 6 wins away from winning a Super Bowl. We get there one week and one win at a time.

This is training time for TJ.

But that doesn't mean you shift your offense to something new, it means you keep doing what you do so that TJ sees real life examples of what he's going to be asked to do in the playoffs. You get him comfortable with his receivers and making the calls at the line to get us into the right play against the defenses.

I think that's the biggest thing Schaub has on TJ right now: recognizing the defense and getting us into the right play.

No, but I also don't want to see a green Yates out there either.

Same game plan. Open up the playbook and play to win, play like you need to win, play to go 1-0 every week, and get this guy up to speed, get his timing down, get him comfortable looking at defenses and what they've got to throw at him and all that good stuff. Get the man some experience because the NFL playoffs are a different beast and he needs to be as prepared as he can be.

Kubiak has stated that the offense won't change. Which means run first to set up the play action. It's been a big part of the winning formula under Schaub as well, and it shouldn't change now. I certainly wouldn't open it up for the sake of gaining Yates experience, since that's not going to be the game plan in the playoffs. If the Texans are going to win, it's by running the ball, maintaining possession, and forcing teams to drive the length of the field against a formidable defense.

By opening it up, you don't have to necessarily change the game plan. By opening it up, I mean use the game plan more aggressively and attack instead of try to control the clock as much. The teams we're facing don't defend either the run or the pass very well. Why not open it up and see what's possible if we get into a shoot out with someone in the playoffs? If it doesn't work so well, we could still make a comeback with the running game and/or a more balanced attack.
Lets see if we have a Ferrari or a Powerstroke with Yates. These last three games are free to figure this out.

The Ferrari's (Andre Johnson) in the shop. Yates has some reliable Chevys and Fords left (Daniels, Walter, Dreessen). No reason to re-invent the wheel with 3 games to go. And as Goatcheese said, no reason to expose the QB to unnecessary hits for the sake of experimentation.
