According to DraftDaddy.Com, we have also invited NT Albert Means of Memphis to a tryout with us...At 6'4", 336, he's definitely a big body...

From a physical standpoint Means looks the part of a NG, but i was able to watch him against Bowling Green (I think) late in the year and he was handle pretty easily by a center using a shut gun snap one on one. Was not impressed, but you never know what motivation get a check (legally) will do for a guy.

I found a picture of Sam Lightbody. This dude looks like a rock in shorts. I think he could really push Mckinney for playing time, and possibly supplant him by the regular season opener. How would the DT get around him?

That guy is a monster. Maybe we could alternate him between C and a little NT to give Payne a rest.

Besides our #5 Draft pick (the Arizona State lineman), some hope at the C/G
position ? Some times they find hidden gems amoung the undrafted college
players just like this guy.

Here's Chris Johnson's pro day info from NFL.com:
Quote:
ARIZONA: MARCH 10
Eleven players worked out. The drills were run on grass.
Chris Johnson OT: Johnson (6-3, 323) ran his 40s in 5.28 and 5.14. He also ran the short shuttle in 4.79 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.71. He had a 29½-inch vertical jump, an 8-foot-7 broad jump and 29 reps.
Chris is from Northshore & was a 3 year starter for the Wildcats at LT. Chester Pitts type size wise, Johnson will likely move to guard for the Texans. Three year starter at LT in the PAC10, I like the signing. Good candidate for the practice squad.

TEXANS ROOKIE MINICAMP
Mock gets chance to show skills
Former Texas QB one of several invited to try out

By JOSEPH DUARTE
Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle

Former University of Texas quarterback Chance Mock has been invited to attend the Texans' two-day rookie minicamp, which begins today at Reliant Park, on a tryout basis.

Mock, who played at The Woodlands High School, was not drafted last weekend. His best season with the Longhorns came as a junior in 2003 when he passed for 1,469 yards and 16 touchdowns, splitting time with Vince Young. As a senior, Mock attempted only 21 passes, completing nine for 79 yards.

The Texans have five quarterbacks on their roster: David Carr, Tony Banks, Dave Ragone, B.J. Symons and Preston Parsons.

In addition to the team's six draft choices — defensive tackle Travis Johnson, running back Vernand Morency, receiver Jerome Mathis, center/guard Drew Hodgdon, safety C.C. Brown and outside linebacker Kenneth Pettway — the minicamp also will include several undrafted rookies the Texans signed as free agents.

Offensive tackles Tim Brown (West Virginia), Chris Johnson (Arizona) and Sam Lightbody (Washington State), tight end Aaron Halterman (Indiana), defensive ends Alfred Malone (Troy) and Carlos Williams (Arizona), cornerbacks Chris McKenzie (Arizona State), Cedrich Williams (Kansas State) and Jerron Wishom (LSU) and receiver Devon Pitts (San Diego State) have been signed by the team.

Pitts is the brother of Texans offensive lineman Chester Pitts, who has started every game in the franchise's three-year history.

The list of tryout players with local ties also includes Rice offensive tackle Scott Mayhew, Texas wide receiver Tony Jeffrey (Klein Forest) and Central Missouri State guard Keenan Ward (Tomball).

Also invited on a tryout basis are punters Freddie Capshaw (Miami) and Ryan Downes (Idaho), quarterbacks Buck Pierce (New Mexico State) and Paul Troth (East Carolina), fullback Nick Signaigo (Mississippi State), offensive tackle Myniya Smith (Southern) and defensive tackle Albert Means (Memphis State).

Under NFL rules, teams can bring in unsigned college players to their minicamps to audition and work with their other rookies. Two-a-day workouts are closed to the public on both days.

mayhew is 6'6" 305, nederland, tx....he started as dt then we moved him to the offensive side of the ball. did very well for us. big, strong kid, with great work ethic..his younger brother plays for uh right now. hope he can earn a spot on the roster, i know that we need better pass blocking but this kid KNOWS run blocking and can definately open holes in that area. i think with the right coaching he could be a good pro player...we'll see.
