The good, the bad: A quick look at the Jaguars

Here’s a quick look at the Texans’ Week 12 opponent, the Jacksonville Jaguars (3-7, 2-1 AFC South), whom the Texans beat 24-14 in Week 8 at Reliant Stadium.

The good: Jaguars Pro Bowl running back Maurice Jones-Drew leads the AFC with 941 rushing yards. He averages 4.4 yards a carry and has five rushing touchdowns.

The Jags’ defense ranks third in the NFL, allowing an average of 300.2 yards per game. Jacksonville ranks fourth in passing defense (189.0) and has limited six opponents to less than 200 yards passing. The Jaguars’ defense ranks fifth in scoring, allowing only 18.0 points per game.

The bad: That stout defense has lost two key starters, cornerback Rashean Mathis and linebacker Clint Session, to season-ending injuries in the last two weeks.

The Jaguars have the league’s worst offense (249.5 yards/game) and worst passing offense (129.4) by a pretty wide margin. Rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert ranks dead last among qualifying passers with a 64.4 rating, 48.9 completion percentage and 5.26 yards per attempt. Jacksonville is 31st in scoring with only 12.5 points per game.

The Jags also have struggled on special teams. They rank 31st in the league with 5.0 yards per punt return and are tied for 24th with 22.1 yards per kickoff return. They contain opposing punt returners fairly well but rank 27th in the league with 27.0 yards allowed per kickoff return.
To go along with those "facts"

When we played Jacksonville we gained 358 yards. & scored 24 points.

The Jags only gained 174 yards & scored 14 points. Blane Gabbert only passed for 90 yards.

If we protect the ball, we will more than likely win. It's probably that simple.
