I used to get that treatment back in college playing basketball at the gym or out at the playground. There would be times during 5-on-5 games where I'd be the only white player. Some guys would throw me the ball, others would be damned first. Of course, those that threw me the ball typically had played with me before and knew I could shoot; others just wouldn't throw me the ball because I was white, and you could tell that was the reason after playing with them off-and-on over the course of time. I've also been guilty of playing football and having to line-up opposite a female, so I tended to play off look for passing lanes to step into.
