I am looking at this years injuries compared to last few seasons and the one trend I seem to notice more than anything else would be the surprising amount of muscle related injuries compared to past seasons. I know we just recently got a new Strength and Conditioning coach, but I was wondering if maybe he just isn't doing that great of a job or are these injuries a result of some off-season inactivity from the players? Thoughts?

I may be wrong as I don't have enough time to research this, but, I think just from watching ESPN everyday it seems like there are a lot of players having muscle related issues on a lot of teams.

Yeah, this was what I expected in the offseason. Even though you did your own workout, it isn't the same.

I've got the same impression from seeing the same as you. It would be interesting to looks back at the end of the season and tally up the injuries for comparison with past years.

It's not just the Texans. It's all over the league. Maybe all 32 teams should fire their S&C coaches?

I realize that a lot of teams have had injuries but it just seems like the Texans have had a ton of muscle related injuries. Of course I do follow the Texans more than any other team despite fantasy football stuff so if you could fill me in I would appreciate it.

As for fantasy purposes, yeah the Texans are having some issues. AJ has a knee thing, Mario tore a pec (IR), Casey is day to day with a strained pec, and Jacoby is aloof indefinitely with a torn brainstem.

I don't think it's as simple as being caused by A or B. Some things are just flukes. I look at Mario's injury as one of those flukes. Looking at the replay, it appeared to me that his finger(s) got hooked under the back of the helmet of the Oakland player. I'm guessing that it didn't allow him the freedom to pull his arm back with a natural motion, thus causing the pec tear. At least that's what it looked like to me, from the replay I saw. Now, the large amount of hamstring inuries could be caused by conditioning issues, but those types of things are common every year too. I think everyone's just trying to pin this on something, but I don't think there's an answer. We're 5 weeks into the season and didn't really have a "major" injury to a key player until week 4 with Andre. Sure, Arian had his hammy issue, but that happened in preseason. So Andre goes down in week 4 and we lose Mario in week 5, but that doesn't mean that the trend is going to continue.
I'm not going to retype this, but I remembered while rereading my post that we did have the injury to Walter & Casey. I can't imagine either one of their inuries being related to conditioning. Same thing can be said about Tate & Ward. IIRC, Ward got hurt when he landed out of bounds on a play. I think that's the play he was injured on anyways. |

The Packers won the SB with 17 players on injured reserve. Injuries are a part of the game and one reason it is so damn hard to win in this league. Some teams can overcome their injuries, some teams can't.

Exactly. If I remember correctly, that was more than any other team too. Some teams are good enough at the "plug & play" concept to overcome those things, or at least still be competitive. The Patriots are also very good at it too.

Green Bay was VERY fortunate that the concussion issue that Rodgers experienced last year didn't last for a longer period of time. Rodgers gets hurt, they are toast.
