The 49ers just released Greg Randall after signing him this past April. That is odd. Why cant that guy stay on a team?
Here is the article from ESPN: San Francisco 49ers: In a somewhat surprising move, the 49ers released four-year veteran offensive linemen Greg Randall, who had signed a one-year contract in April as an unrestricted free agent. The 49ers also released journeyman kicker Danny Boyd and added safety Eric Totten, who recently finished the NFL Europe League season with the Cologne Centurions. Boyd was competing with incumbent kicker Todd Peterson. Totten was previously in training camp with the Steelers. Randall, a week shy of his 26th birthday, started all 16 games for the Texans at right tackle last season. He began his NFL career as a fourth-round pick of New England in the 2000 draft and the veteran, who changed his name from Greg Robinson-Randall, played three years for the Pats before being traded to the Texans last summer. The former Michigan State standout has never missed a game because of injury and has 39 starts among his 51 appearances. He signed with the 49ers for a minimum base salary of $535,000 after also being pursued by the Cowboys and Dolphins early in the free agency period. It was thought he would vie for playing time, perhaps even a starting spot, on the revamped 49ers line, but the coaches believed some younger players had outperformed him in minicamps. -- L.P. |

That is odd about the name. When women do it it's not a surprise but a guy?

He grew up with his mom's last name of Robinson. He didn't know his father. He reunited with his father and changed his name to Robinson-Randall (Randall is his father's name). Eventually he changed it to Greg Randall. I believe that is that story. It has been a year since I read it.

If we added a year of experience for Pitts and McKinney (who was new to playing center), and brought in Weigert, Washington, and Randall and got that much improvement then if Randall is as bad as it appears Wade should have a big impact for us. That's nice to think of. Wonder if the plus we get from Wade on the right will be offset by the negative side of starting Wand on the left (at first at least).

A lot of Randall's problems over the years, dating back to New England, have been due to conditioning and I wouldn't be surprised if that was a factor in this case.
