2007-
1- Amobi Okoye DT 2- * 3- Jacoby Jones WR 4- Fred Bennett "CB" 5- Brandon Harrison S 5- Brandon Frye OT 6- Kasey Studdard OG 7- Zac Diles LB *Part of the trade for Matt Schaub The worst draft of ALL TIME. Okoye busted bigtime, try to forget who was selected right after him. The trade for Schaub is probably the biggest win here......Jacoby Jones for a 3rd. Sick. Fred Bennett can't even coach. The Brandons, I don't think even played preseason snaps. KASEY STUDDARD!!! AAACCKK!!!! Zac Diles. I guess that's a hit too since he started for a god awful defense for 2 years. Shoot me. That's terrible. That's a team NOT taking a step right there and in this game if you're not moving forward? You're moving backwards, like Jacoby Jones in the endzone on a busted play.

For the record, the 2007 draft was Rick Smith's first fail as GM, but not his last.
Cronyism FTW!

Hey, we were just beginning to get on track then, so that doesn't count.

That's funny. I made the same thread on August 30th and a few posters sort of politely suggested I was crazy. And I added the 2008 Draft into that argument.

The 2006 draft class, arguably our most talented ever, has turned into the IR class.
1. Mario Williams (IR 2011, Pectoral) 2. Demeco Ryans (IR 2010, Achilles) 3. Charles Spencer (Career ending injury) 4. Eric Winston (*knock on wood*) 5. Owen Daniels (IR 2009, ACL) 6. Wali Lundy (not talented) 7. David Anderson (*knock on wood*)

I regret clicking on this thread now... That 2007 is beyond horrible, and 2008 was awful too.

I think that made me Vurp a little bit and burn my mouth.....horrible. Remember how many seasons the Texans just kept clinging to Okoye? "We've got great kids"

Inept is not just a word in the dictionary. It was FO policy in 2007. That's just pathetic. Even the Sunshine Club has to admit it.

For instance: 1) Okoye is still young. Remember, Smith was amazingly brave to pick such a young player. The Texans gave up on him too soon because of the whiners. 2) Jacoby Jones did just fine last week and in his career. Is it his fault his QB sucks and can't get him the ball? 3) The number two picks for Schaub was cheap for a good QB. Is it his fault his receivers outside of AJ suck and can't run routes and catch? It may seem 2 and 3 contradict, but you just have to be ready to ignore any cognitive dissonance. ======= Joking aside, I liked the trade for Schaub. I think he's a good enough QB for this team. The rest of the draft...no.

I'm always interested in how drafts like this echo into future drafts. Taking Okoye instead of Darrelle Revis results in the Texans later needing to draft Antwuan Molden and when he fails Kareem Jackson. If we draft Willis instead of Okoye are we then back taking a linebacker two years later when Cushing is sitting there?
How teams are put together interests me. The process is fascinating. You see Kubiak show up in 2006 and Jason Babin doesn't seem to fit what the great defensive mind of DC Richard Smith has planned BUT... he goes back to 4-3 end where he belongs and manages 5 sacks in 3 starts. The next year in 2007 he's traded to Seattle for a bag of balls and a bad SS. Two years later we're drafting him all over again in Conner Barwin who hopefully can make the transition to OLB that Babin couldn't. IF we'd kept Babin around a little longer (and if Smith or Bush had known how to coordinate a defense) he'd probably have blossomed into the pass rushing 4-3 DE he is today. It doesn't pay to think too much about how many players the Texans have had and failed to develop over the last ten years.
