Just wanted to pop on this site to let all Texans fans that you are getting an exciting player in Jerome Mathis.
I'm a graduate of Hampton and I can tell you that he's a highlight film. Hampton Univ. is a predominately black university in Hampton Virginia. Hampton's football program is ranked annually as one of the most successful programs in Division II. In fact, Hampton is the defending National Black College Football Champions. Let him catch the ball in the open field and it's over.

We're happy to have him, and he seems happy to be here...I hope we get him on the field this year and he makes an impact...

How are you hampton86? I used to live in Newport News when I was in the Navy. I lived there when Iverson was in high school. It was certainly an interesting time. Anyway. I sure hope Mathis can draw some of the heat from Andre Johnson. I hope you come back during the season. Welcome to the board.

Hampton actually is I-AA. Nonetheless, Texans fans, you guy will not be disappointed in Jerome, he's a great great player. I'm sure there are plenty of new Texan fans in Hampton Roads and all of Virginia

I personally have never seen the guy play, but what it sounds like to me is he was a big steal in the fourth round. Is he capable of being the #2 option this season or do you all think he will play more of the third and fourth option. In other words, how much playing time do you expect him to get this season if any.

I expect kickoff returns (possibly).. and I expect him to be on the roster.. but I'm betting he plays a role similar to Derrick Armstrong last season.

the only thing i've heard qestioned on him is his hands and consenteration. with that he sounds a little like Todd Pinkston, but many people compare him to santana moss. i like the 2nd comparison but not the first. i would say he will fight Corey Bradford for the #2 spot and if he loses to bradford i think he will take gaffney's spot at #3. A Santana Moss at #3, that sounds pretty dang good to me.

After talking to Jerome, he sounds like a confident player who can live up to his talk. I've seen a bunch of film on him thanks to a friend of mine that plays on the Hampton team, and he is pretty darn impressive.

the guy is a burner, i would look at him and say he is a cheaper version of Troy Williamson... doesnt have the name and high profile... but has the speed 4.26 is what i have heard on his pure speed... much like Troy... not sure about him after the catch like Troy, but he is a quick little sucker, and he can work on his hands, like Andre did when he first came into the league

It will be interesting to see where he ends up. I think Bradford is gone in 2006 and Mathis is groomed to be our #2. Gaffney seems like a very good #3 slot receiver. I hope they don't move him from that role.

i think gaff is stuck no matter what, if mathis doesnt take the 2 i think its either bradford or armstrong... although armstrong is a slot receiver like gaff ... so it really boils down to a couple of players mathis, bradford... and maybe starling?

The one thing I liked when I saw his highlights was ability to stop and go on a dime and his change of direction. Looked a little like Barry Sanders kind of moves in the open field.

I have no opinion, whatsoever, of Mathis. Never heard of him before the draft. I hope he is as advertised. We have one "burner", named Bradford,
who makes a play here and there, then disappears. I hope Mathis is the 2nd coming of Jerry Rice, but remember...Rice was considered "slow". All in all, I hope ya kick *** in Houston, Mathis.
