Roman Harper cheap shot?

It really didn't look bad to me, but I felt like he was just trying to draw a flag. It was 3rd and 20 or so, but a free 1st down would have been a huge swing of momentum for the Texans at that point.

(on when he put his hands on his helmet and rubbed his neck after the sack at the end of last game)

Schaub is better than that. Way better. I get the whole "win at all cost" mentality, but that was embarrassing to watch.

^^^You all were right. I'd never seen Schaub as the type to flop before....but now? Just....wow.

You shouldn't stand corrected as it is two separate issues. IMO Harper did intentionally raise his knee to hit Schaub in the head. Regardless of whether or not it hurt it should have been flagged. How often do you see flags for some DLmen brushing a QB's helmet where there was no chance of it hurting? Schaub feeling the blow apparently tried to take advantage of it.

If that had been Brady, Manning, Brees, or Rogers, it would have been flagged.

I'm not saying that I think it should have been a flag, but the double-standard for marque QBs* in this league is glaringly obvious.

*except for Vick, of course

That's part of the reason I used the touching the helmet example. Last year Antonio Smith sacked Manning. In typical Manning fashion he started to go to the ground to avoid the big hit - smart move, no criticism there. But in going to the ground his head moved down and Smith's hand kissed his helmet and the refs nailed him for blow to the head. Obviously unintentional, inconsequential contact but ends up taking away an 8 yard loss and making it into a 15 yard gain.

Me too. I didn't accept that explanation but I guess he was doing exactly that.

You don't see it any more. They changed that rule this off-season and now incidental contact with the QB's helmet is no longer drawing flags. As for Harper and the knee, look at the replays closely and you'll clearly see that by lifting his knee he avoided knee to head contact and slid into Schuab with his hip instead. Several other members here have admitted the same. But, a person will see what he wants to see if the bias is strong enough.

If he were on the other side of the lOS, I could see that, but when the QB is laying on the ground like that & one of your teammates has him by the ankle, I'm pretty sure you are supposed to pull up. I'd also think you should not go anywhere near his head.

But, Schaub had every opportunity to set the record straight & he said he was hamming it up....

No Flag, & that receiver was as defenseless as anyone could possibly be.

Later in that same game, I saw a receiver with the ball in his hands, feet just touched the ground & he was about to turn.... but got the snot knocked out of him before he really had a chance... defenseless receiver.

It appears, if you catch the ball, you'll get the flag. If you drop it, that's your ass.

I've got to imagine Kubiak had "The Talk" with Matt last week. Told him it was time to put the big-boy pants on & do what it takes to win the game.


He probably just took it the wrong way.
