Default NFL give up exempt status

Quote:
In a letter to team owners, Goodell said that the league office and its management council will file tax returns as taxable entities for the 2015 fiscal year. Goodell said the NFL has been tax-exempt since 1942, though all 32 teams pay taxes on their income.

Goodell said the change will not alter the function or operation of the league, since all the teams already pay taxes.

"As you know, the effects of the tax-exempt status of the league office have been mischaracterized repeatedly in recent years," Goodell said in the letter, dated Tuesday. "The fact is that the business of the NFL has never been tax exempt."

The NFL is tired of hearing about it's "tax exempt status" every time they force cities to pay for their stadiums.

saw a note that he made at least $45 m 2013 and $35 m 2014 and IIRC indicated his handling of domestic abuse led to lower amount.

God'ell srewing with things that has worked to make the NFL the most popular league in this country. Surely the Wellington Mara set things up this way for a reason.

But God'ell knows best, Bountygate/Ray Rice/Deflategate. I wish a reporter would ask what Tags thinks about this move?

Goodell is not an emperor. He does not have unbridled and unchecked power.

What he is is the front man for 32 ownership groups that do not want to deal with the public face of the league. He gets paid to take the heat that the owners want no part of, but he's not making unilateral decisions.

The actions by the league's front office represent decisions and consensus of 32 ownership groups, not one man.

Absolutely. And I don't think it's simple majority either - pretty sure they require a super-majority most/all of the time.

More to the thread, what the hell's wrong with this move?

LOL! That's the same theory that says our elected representatives are public SERVANTS and not MASTERS. How's that working for ya?

Last time I checked, the NFL is a private business, not a government entity.

It is not a "theory". It is the reality. The NFL owners can choose whoever the hell they want to represent their interests.

Logic FAIL on your part. Not the first time for that, tho'...

As you dilute the ownership, the management becomes stronger than those they should represent just as it has in the Corporate World and in Government, There is no failure of logic. Just a limited vision by those who can't grasp conceptual thought readily.

To what 'diluted ownership' are you referring?

The hole in your logic is that it implies that Goodell has become so "strong" that he cannot be fired by the 32 owners. He can be; at any time. Right now he serves a purpose. Disgruntled fans of the NFL can target their venom at Goodell instead of the group of owners. When they have someone taking all the fire, why remove him?

What are you babbling about "dilute the ownership"? Until you can logically explain that load of crap, the rest of your post is pointless.

I understand you are unsuccessfully trying to metaphor the situation with politics, but it's clearly not working at any level.

Any limited vision here is on your part for simply being unable to clearly explain yourself. You attempt to belittle with your "those who can't grasp conceptual thought readily" comment, but it really only serves to reveal that you seem to be unable to grasp basic communication skills to convey your rather muddled thought processes.

I'm sure those who have a layman's understanding about benefits for the individual entities gained from the non-profits's retained earnings are happier as well.
