Andre Reed has harsh words for Jon Bon Jovi and Johnny Manziel
Quote:
Former Bills receiver Andre Reed, and soon-to-be Hall of Fame inductee, offered some harsh words toward musician Jon Bon Jovi and Browns rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel in a lengthy story published in New York Magazine.

While the story's overall focus, written by Reeves Wiederman, is on the dedication from Buffalo's fans to keep the franchise in the city and away from Bon Jovi's potential ownership, Reed's quotes stood out due to the candor they were spoken in.

When it came to the notion of the New Jersey-born Bon Jovi buying the franchise and potentially moving it to Toronto, Reed had this to say:
Quote:
"Man f*@k Bon Jovi! You might as well just take this city, throw it in the river, and let it go down Niagara Falls.”
Reed later admitted that if the franchise was moved to Toronto, that the organization would have to pay him to keep his association.

In addition, Reed, at a Buffalo casino, looked up at a television and saw a tweet from Manziel on ESPN, which stated that LeBron James was "my guy" after he announced he would be returning to Cleveland. That prompted Reed to voice his opinion on the rookie quarterback, who has drawn a lot of criticism this offseason for being photographed partying in various locations across the country.

Quote:
“Who the f*@k is Johnny Manziel?” Reed stated. “LeBron ain’t your guy! You’re not 'Johnny Football.' You’re 'Johnny Rookie B!tch.'"
Reed then added the city of Buffalo wouldn't put up with Manziel's antics the way Browns have.

Quote:
"They’d boo that motherf*@ker outta here,” Reed said. “The fans would put him in his place."

Who pi**ed in his Wheaties.. Dang !! Sounds like he is a little envious of JFF.. even though he is a HOF'er. I understand what he is saying though, but making comments like that make him seem as if he is jealous of JFF's fame.

As for BJ moving the team, well the league would have to approve of that, just not like he can pack up and take them to Canada.

Seems like Reed had to get some things off his chest and it kind of just got away from him... Brutal honesty !!

He's already backtracking on Twitter saying he was talking off the record and out of context.

Too bad because I was getting ready to hit the follow button. Guess I'll just keep following the Iron Shiek calling other guys "raisin balls" and "cheetos dick." He never disappoints.

I guess I am old when I remember a time when rookies in the NFL were just rookies. The players that we would constantly hear about were players that had actually accomplished something in the league, had paid their dues, and had EARNED the respect of fans and media.

Now it's all about vapid social media and pimping corporate brands, grabbing as much money as you can before actually being tested on the field. Once the test begins, there is a chance of failure, and of diminished brand value as a potential result. Grab what you can while you can is a mantra of the immediate gratification mentality.

I have nothing against Manziel, but the hype is stupid and goofy. They did this same crap with Tebow, and where is his brand now? Maybe Manziel can live up to it, but the majority of the time, reality never meets the high level of expectations created by hype.

I just want it over with. Either prove the hype is worth it, or bust out and let us stop having it crammed down our throats. We know ESPN and NFLN push it as a direct correlation to jersey sales. It's all corporate marketing strategy.

As far as the Bills moving; The writing has been on the wall for many years. It is sad, but it is the reality of owning a franchise of a mult-billion dollar entertainment empire in an economically dying city. This is not the 1960's NFL anymore. This is a global product now, and the league wants to capitalize on the momentum by putting teams in places that can financially support the franchises. Sucks, but it is reality. Even a city as big and economically well off as Houston can lose a franchise when we took our eyes of the ball, so I do not see how Buffalo is exempt from modern realities.

Legitimate question, how far back would you have to go before rookies weren't hyped up the way they are? It's been about as far back as I can remember.

I recently received an email from a Bills fan wanting to know if we would support them and put up a banner to their site http://www.buffalofanalliance.org/

They are trying to get a movement going to keep them in Buffalo. I think the guy forgot that this fan base lost the Oilers as it seems many people do. You always hear about Baltimore and Cleveland but rarely anyone mentions Houston as a former victim of relocation.

I just told him that no fan site or movement by fans is going to amount to anything. These guys are going to do whatever makes more "cents" as in dollars and cents. This is a bitter subject with me personally so it's kind of hard to rally for others, especially since no other fan base gave a crap about Houston losing the Oilers.

Also, if the Oilers hadn't blown that game in Buffalo they would probably still exist in Houston today.

If they do go to Toronto the fans in Buffalo are still close, though the name would probably be changed etc, so doubtful anyone in Buffalo would want to support them.

I do not recall rookies being the lead story every single night with a 10 minute round-table discussion talking about the exact thing they talked about on the previous night's show.

Seems like All Access and Sportscenter are infatuated with Manziel right now.

Notice that it is not all rookies. I have no problem with them discussing rookies and potential, as it is part of the game. But to the point of regurgitated BS and analysis of their social life? I think that is a somewhat recent thing tied to the increase in social media.

They were doing it with Tebow, as well. His jersey sales were high for awhile, and I personally believe this is directly related to these manufactured stories of hype.

It bores me and they lose me as a viewer. I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way. There is only so much to be said about nothing.

I'm right there with you, DB. My guess is like yours, many feel that way. I put the blame squarely in ESPN's shoulders. For years they have been a monopoly. You could say they still are, but with competition growing on the horizon.

The screwed up thing is, as far as I'm concerned, is their way of being "the world wide leader in sports" is now ingrained in all the others who want to challenge their supremacy as THE sports channel to watch. It seems the competition-wannabe's have watched their tabloid approach combined with their myopic ad-nausea coverage of a selected few they have, inadvertently or not, imitated ESPN to at least a degree of strange dread and familiarity.

In 1979, if you would have told me there were one day soon going to be TV channels solely dedicated to sports I would have been jumping out of my skin with anticipation. Thanks ESPN. How you can take 24-sports and turn it into complete garbage is beyond me, but you did it.

EDIT: Wooops. Sorry for the hijack. I still think Bon Jovi's intent is to keep it in Buffalo. If so I can't wait for a retraction of the retraction of the retraction (of the retraction?) by Reed.

I absolutely quit watching ESPN, NFLN or whatever, a long time ago. Unless there's a game on, I never watch their programming. I just don't need it. I don't need what THEY think they need to feed me. Everything I want to know about I can find on the internet. Everything that interests me. Stuff that I choose and not the force-fed BS they dish out ad nauseam.

I don't listen much to sports radio any more either. It's the same thing. I'm just not going to sit there and listen to a bunch of stuff I have no interest in, in hopes they'll throw something out there that does interest me. And that's inbetween 47 minutes of commercials per hour. Plus I can't deal with the idiot callers any more.

Now I will listen to LZ a little bit in the morning for his football takes, but even that I can find online somewhere.

The media is a joke and I just choose not to deal with it any more. There's too many other ways I can find out exactly what I want to know without having the non-stop JFF love affair.

And to stay on topic - You’re not 'Johnny Football.' You’re 'Johnny Rookie B!tch - is now my all-time favorite quote.

I had much hate for him back when he played, it seemed like he always just owned the Oilers.

I dont like him now, but I do like that he's not scared to speak his mind.

all this quote tells me is that Andre Reed is classless and isn't worried too much about his dignity..or lack of said. Seems like we live in a world of classless undignified people all over the place though...so he fits in.
