I am speechless! So sad that ANYONE would post a pic like this!! I guess all you guys/gals think every TEXAN fan should be slim, trim, and heartless!!! Maybe I need to relocate MY seats just because I am fat!! You all disgust me today!!!!!!!
FYI!! I would rather sit with a heavy person ANY DAMN day than be anywhere close to a staggering drunk, OR a person who has been on the parking lot for 4-5 hrs and smells like they haven't bathed in a month!! Do you want me to go on??! Obviously, the two people in the middle didn't mind! SO, why the need to make fun of overweight fans!!

It's probably just as easy to say that if you're going to attend a sporting event or concert or whatever that you may want to consider the very real possibility that a person you sit next to might be big, smell funny, be drunk, be obnoxious, be super considerate or a total jerk, could be black, white, Muslim, asian...
You buy the ticket to watch the game. So does everyone else. Have some empathy and consideration for PEOPLE....everyone has feelings.

But at the same time, I think it's ok to aknowledge that it isn't the most comfortable position...I'm not a small guy either, so if someone is hanging over into my seat (as the gentleman on the right is doing to the lady) then I would have a big problem with that... No offense, but it is what it is. |

My father (who i go to games with) is 6'3 and a very large (broad shoulders, stocky build) guy. Hes middle aged overweight, but not like that. He can't sit in his seat because he is just so broad. When someone sits next to him, he'll either lean my way, and i deal with it, and around half time, once he knows I've endured enough, he stands up and go stands by the rails. He knows how much he values his space (everything's too small for him)
Moral of the story - Respect someone others space. If your making them uncomfortable, stand up. If it hurts you knees to stand up, get a scooter/Wheelchair. If this fails, maybe you shouldn't be at a game. No malice at all.

Sorry. I pay a lot of money for my seat and if you are so big that you are hanging over into my seat making it uncomfortable for me in the space I paid for, then that isn't right. Not making fun of large people, that's just a reality. These spaces are only so big. If you are intruding into someone elses space, that is a problem.
And this isn't about large or "fat" people. There's large people (including me) that pack in where I sit and we fit just fine. It's about obese people that take up more space than they paid for, that take up space another person paid for. That isn't right any way you look at it.

To answer your question "what would you do?" Easy answer! I just stand up!! As a large person, if I feel I'm intruding in someone else's space, I leave. If I was offended by my seatmate, I would go to the usher and ask for assistance. Who knows, complaining might land ya a seat in the club section!!

My original post was duality in nature. "Not fair" to be uncomfortable for all parties, both the big people and those between them. We are a society that needs larger chairs for bigger people, regardless if it's a weight thing or just a size thing. If they have to pay more, so be it. But, there should be options, and that was the purpose of my initial post. As far as obsesity and choice, medical science is heavily researching the subject, and latest information is that genetics play a major role, among other things that we cannot control as individuals. Obviously, nutrition is part of it, but some people's bodies don't do the 'normal' thing with carbs, protein, and fat. |

I agree with Speedy here. If I go to a game and I cannot comfortably "sit" in my seat that I paid for because I am having to share it with someone else, that's not fair.
I would kindly ask the usher to upgrade my seats to another location.

We need to remember how to voice our opinions without attacking each other.

I'm not trying to be insensitive to anyone in this situation but I kind of know both sides. I'm not a "large" guy by any stretch (6'2 - 180) but when I am in China I am a giant (Yao not included obviously). We used to take the ferry to HK all the time and it just wasn't built for someone my size. I'd have a person that was 4'10 - 90 lbs on either side of me and my knees in my chin (This is back in the early 90's so it may have changed). I was all elbows and knees but I couldn't help but put them in the seats next to me. I started buying two tickets and just leaning all over one.
I've been on the other end when I was a kid... I used to fly to Jakarta and we would take the weirdest routes (through Hawaii and Australia and then through Canada and Taiwan). We would ride in coach and on several occasions I would get stuck next to a large individual. On a 12-14 plane ride that is not cool. They would lean into my seat and stuff because I was a kid I guess. My solution? Get a wool blanket. (I'm allergic to wool) I would reclaim my seat about 5 seconds after my allergies kicked in and I started sneezing. Of course as an adult I would handle it differently. It isn't the, next to someone large, that bothers me, but there is certainly a line. If I am having to squeeze my shoulders together I might ask to be moved. Not if it is a one time game, but if I held season tickets and I saw them there the next week I would have to ask to be moved. That's at least a 350 -2k investment that I'm making per seat and while I may stand most of the game I can't see my gf doing it. There has to be a way to be nice about it and still get relief. Mike

First of all I would be willing to bet those 2 in the middle are friends with their larger "bookend" mates. Those are probably 4 seats together and those 4 fans are probably together. You can see why the large couple are not sitting together, it's probably not possible in those seats, hence they have all 4 and decided they all fit best the way they are seated.
I could be wrong but I doubt it. BTW, Gma ... you are not fat or anywhere even close to those guys who are obese. Actually you looked pretty trim on that TV commercial.
