Did anyone read the article about Matt Jones in the new issue of SI? He was the QB at Arkansas and will not be good enough to play that position in the pros, but at 6'6", 242 Lbs, and runs the 40 in 4.37, there has to be a place for him. I wish the Texans could be lucky enough to draft this guy with the 3rd round pick.

well, you're right with most of the stuff you said but there is not way that he is there in the 3rd round, sorry. he could turn out to be a very good player, but i just don't think he is what we need right now.

i'm not say he couldn't be used on our team, but were we are right now, i would rather have a guy that could come in and contribute right away. jones could has a very good chance of turning into a force on offense, but it will take some time for him to learn his new position.

Matt will be a 1st round pick. I disagree with the talk about him not being able to play QB in the NFL.

No way, could he play QB in the NFL. That's like saying Eric Crouch could play QB in the NFL, most of his throws were made on a bootleg. Come on dude, dont make silly post =) Hes a WR, and will be a big threat in the end zone his first year. Late 1st round pick, early 2nd round pick.

no chance he lasts to pick 40. That means the eagles pass on him twice, the Buccs with Gruden who just gushed over him, the titans who lost Dyson, the
Raiders. fact is unless we trade down there is no chance of him landing here. Would i like him here, of course, we have Bradford as a 1 year stopgap so he wont be rushed into service, probably work as the number 4 guy. and learn the system. Plus he can line up from time to time at tight end and can do some interesting things with the ball in his hands on a reverse play. |

I'm thinking that he is a TE or maybe an outside linebacker. With that speed, strength, and leaping ability he could raise havoc. Maybe he becomes a 6'6" running back?

no he will not play defense, no way no how. at running back he is too big of a target, his skills are best suited to either tight end or wide reciever, if he plays TE he would have to add at least 10 more pounds so that he could be a half decent blocker. I think he is going to end up a wide out, who will play some tight end packages and just kinda be the new slash. total project though.
I think teams dont need to overwhelm him, he seems to not have his head on str8 which is great for a wide out cause he will fit in, but they shouldn't expect him to play more than 1 new position. |

I would love to have Matt Jones on my team anytime. He will go in the first round imo, maybe as high as #20 to Dallas, or as low as #31 to the Eagles. He is going to be a great threat in the red zone, and with his size speed ratio, he can be a downfield threat too. Sure, he will need to learn the nuances of WR, but he played WR until his senior yr of HS, so the position is not totally foreign to him. In addition, he looked like a man playing with boys in the Senior Bowl workouts and game. I won't be at all shocked to see him make a heavier contribution his rookie year than most of you think. As to him playing QB, no way. That is a done deal. Most teams see him at WR, with a few seeing him more as a TE or Hback. He will be a VERY good player for a decade or more. Just watch and see!

When you look at Matt Jones you need to think of Antwaan Randle-El. He will likely be a decent player who relies alot on his athleticism, but it will take him three or four years to be what we consider good.

When the Texans had four picks on the first day I thought we had a chance of getting Matt Jones. But now that CC has traded away our 2nd and one of our 3rd round picks I can't see that there is any chance of getting him... well unless the Texans trade down an pick up a 2nd round pick.

I want Matt Jones To Be A Texan! Whatever it takes. Not only would he be a Larry Csonka type or a Franco Harris type, he may become all-pro at that position.

For the Texans to get Matt Jones in a logical slot they would need to trade with Philly, our #13 for #31 and 35. Otherwise it is'nt going to happen.

But as a WR he will thrive, I predict he pulls in 8 TDs this year.
