Default OL-Barron or no Barron

i think getting Barron would be a good thing for the O-Line. He looks to me like he will be a great player, some worry about his inconsisten play, and even though he is the top OL prospect in the draft, it dont seem like a very deep draft for OL. . Most mocks on ESPN and such have all seen us getting him ! Would u like us taking him at 13 or not ?

Taking Barron at 13 isn't the best thing for the team to do since he isn't strong enough to beat out Wand in 2005 and he isn't good enough of a run blocker to contribute as a guard either...The pass protection of the interior O-Line caused most of the Texans woes last year and Wand played well enough to warrant being given another year...If we were to trade down and take him later in the draft, then fine, but I think that we need help at WR, OLB, and ILB more than we need an OT project...

i think we could move him to other needs on the O-Line i mean after all blocking is blocking. And i'm not saying he will be an imediate impact player but lets face it it is good to prepare for the future, but i could see how u would not agree with getting a 1st round guy who wasnt gonna start, but i think he could be a very good ball player for us someday soon.

You would move Barron to RG or C, where you have to be a strong guy who excels at pushing 315 pounders out of the way so your RB has room to run and holding his own ground versus a 315 pounder looking to get to your QB...I'm guaranteeing you that Barron doesn't have the strength or run blocking ability to play on the interior O-Line...His strength is his pass blocking and ability to hold up against weaker finesse/speedy ends...

well i'm sure alot of people though what are we doing taking a running back named D. Davis a 4th rounder in the draft, i mean heck i had never even heard of him. But i think the draft has taught us all it doesnt really matter how high ur drafted. I mean look at tom brady there we were several guys taken before him, whos names i dont even know.

I knew exactly what we were doing when we took Davis: taking a future 3rd down guy who may return a few kicks here and there...So far he has been more than that, but if we take Benson, Davis will fill the roles he was drafted to fill...

IF we take benson, and if we take him theres still the chance he wont beat Davis out of the starting RB spot. I honestly doubt we take benson, even if we dont take barron, cause we have an average if not Great RB in Davis so the RB postion is not really a "must" right now, we have bigger holes to fill.

If Benson is there at 13, he'd be the clear-cut BPA at that point...In the first, I think it's more important to get the best athlete that you can as opposed to reaching for a need, which is what taking Barron would be...Rick Gosselin, who rates players based on what insiders tell him, not what other internet mock drafters are doing, has Barron going at 22, so taking Barron at 13 would be a reach...

I am happy with Barron if we trade down to at least 15 to get him. that will net an extra day 1 pick.(3rd round)

just helps with value, like a few years ago when the Bengals took OT Levi Jones with the 9th pick, they could have traded down and got him anyway, just getting him at value. not as extreme as a value tradeoff since he was a much lower rated prospect than barron, but same thing basically.

I think we sit on our pick to see if any of the top players fall to us, very unlikely we will take a Antrelle Rolle or Pac Man Jones if either falls, which would give us a great chance to move back to a team looking for one of these studs. If one of the other top players falls (williamson, merriman, johnson, any of the top 3 running backs, williams, edwards) We take him, otherwise trade down and pick up barron or barnes.

if one of the corners falls from that group it would probably net a more lucrative trade offer.

well theres really no reason to sign a corner now with buchanan and signing another OL to our team and puttin him on the feild is a deathwish for Carr. the o-line needs time to gel and work together as a unit and we need to stop puttin out diffrent people every year. i think were gonna see a big improvment this year and if not, in next years draft i guess we should draft one IMO but im not real big on barron.

We should draft a guard or center (or both this year), but stay away from Barron. There are way better OTs in next years draft. We need to groom the linemen we draft this year for the future and let our current starters stay where they are to see if they improve.

Before the Buchanon trade, this would have been a resounding NO from me. However, we no longer have the draft ammunition to get one of the elite playmakers. If we can't trade down and no one falls, we might just have to accept Barron as a BPA at #13.

There is no way IMO that Barron would be the BPA at 13 since most of the reputable sources (such as Ourlads) have Barron as the 17th overall player or later regardless of position...Rick Gosselin doesn't even have Barron as his number one OT, so I don't think he'll be the BPA at 13...

Default good call

I see barron with 13, just to add a mentallity to the o-line and some toughness to help develop the zone blocking scheme that they're trying to implement. A trade seems likely to me to move back into the 2nd to try to grab ware, but he probably won't be there at that point, so look for the texans to grab a tweener from another school later in the draft, like 4th or 5th. Do you think the Texans could trade wong for extra draft picks if they go with a tweener? This way they could put peek in the middle and get a hybrid d-lineman/linebacker like babin last year to start on the outside. As far as running backs go, i don't see the Texans taking one anytime soon based on what we saw from DD and Wells last year. when he did play, Wells had the ability to run over or on occassion, by some guys, and Davis is the total package you look for in a back, he's got good hands, feet and vision to find holes in the line. As soon as the O-line develops to where the coaching staff wants it, look for big years running and better timing to pass the ball. I say this year or next year is when the Texans make that huge stride forward and push for the playoffs.

If you're looking for toughness on the O-Line, then you need to look past Barron, since that is one of the main knocks on him...He lacks the fiery intensity that makes above average guys into superstars...He is more of a finesse blocker...I agree our O-Line seems timid at times, but I think if we can manage to add an intense guy like David Baas or Logan Mankins to the line, it will raise everyone else's level of intensity...
