Cardinals | Joey Porter could be released
Tue, 14 Jun 2011 08:36:21 -0700 Arizona Cardinals LB Joey Porter, who is scheduled to earn $5.75 million in base salary for the 2011 season, could be released once the new league year starts. Although a million of Porter's salary is guaranteed, a source said that it is guaranteed only for injury. 0 Comments | Share: | Source: FOXSports.com - Adam Caplan Read more: http://www.kffl.com/hotw/nfl#ixzz1PH89cNOG Sounds as if he could come on the cheap, and I know I was glad when he left Miami because he gave us fits. |

Would love to have him here. The guy is a gamer and is exactly what this soft team needs. A guy with nothing but attitude and grit that fits the 3-4 very well. If Porter became a Houston Texan I just might change my stance on Wade at least for the first year here, because Porter could be that locker room leader that's intense and fierce that could feed onto the rest of the defense and give the defense some grit. Wade's a great defensive mind, but he isn't a disciplinarian and he's very soft and the Texans entire team needs that bad. Porter in the locker room could help change that a lot. He may not be the player he used to be, but his locker room presence and gritty attitude could really help this team that's lacked fire in the past.

This He would bring the attitude that the Texans have been lacking since their inception. Dirty/nasty/take no prisoners is what this corporate entity has been lacking. |

13 seasons at age 34 and has never missed more than 2 games during a season. Not bad for a guy his age. He could be a useful backup LB for sure, but I would just be concerned about him breaking down after all those years. It's going to happen sometime.

Well that's why you draft a Brookes Reed to learn from the dude. By week 8 Brookes Reed would be almost as good.

Or you could just hire a coach to teach him how to play linebacker. Team attitude changes I can understand being enhanced by veteran players, but fundamentals should be coming from the coaches.

A specialist with focused rage who has a couple of rings? Sure, I would be sniffing around for a deal with this 34 year old.

Over the hill guy looking for his fourth team who when he fails some in this thread acting as proponents would then say he wasn't a significant free agent signing and was poor judgment by Smithiak. No thanks. Rather develop the young players we have.

I wouldn't say that so therefore I would sign him.

I hear what you are saying, but it means a lot more coming from a guy who was a star OLB as compared to a coach...especially a coach like Herring who never played at the pro level.

That's because it wouldn't be a significant signing. And the only reason why anyone would complain if it didn't work out well at all is if he got a large contract where he got way over paid.

Don't be too sure about that...people complained after Roosevelt Corvin was signed and later cut.

It won't happen though. Porter is way to outspoken and mean for grandpa Bob. He's had brawls before games and even had a fight outside of a casino with another player. To rowdy for grandpa. |

Don't get me wrong. I would love to see Joey Porter added to the LB corps. I'm just saying that if he does sign (even at a reasonable price) and doesn't make the team there are those that WILL complain. Guaranteed. |

We won't sign him. He's way to outspoken and rowdy for Mcnair. I don't think he could ask for a whole lot right now any way after not having a stellar year last season. He was on a poor Cardinals defense though that didn't exactly have great coaching there on defense. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him put together another impactful type of season on another team that ran a good 3-4 scheme.

Combo of Antonio Smith & Joey Porter would certainly answer some questions concerning veteran leadership & defensive playmaking skills.

He was fairly awful for Arizona, wasn't he?

Pretty much the case with their entire defense.
