Default Ourlads Final Mock Draft

the newsletter just arrived so I thought I would share it with my fellow Texans. this is who they see the Texans drafting-

#13 Troy Williamson, WR

#47 Domonique Foxworth, DC

#73 Adam Terry, OT

#78 Jovan Haye, DE

#114 Darren Sproles, RB (5056 188 4.48)

#151 Adam Seward, ILB

#188 Brandon Jacobs, RB (6043 261 4.56)

#227 Derrick Anderson, QB

notice even though they have the Texans selecting two RB's they are completley different, also I had the Texans selecting Derrick Anderson on one of my earlier mock drafts at #227 he is very athletic and reminds me alot of a low risk Adrian McPherson. other thoughts-

#13 Derrick Johnson is still on the board why would the Texans pass? Demarcus is gone @ 11 to Dallas.

#47 Roscoe Parrish goes the very next pick to Bengals, which is another reason to switch DJ & go LB in the 1st and WR with the 2nd.

#73 They love Matt McCoy too (already picked @ #52) so I'm taking CB off their board at #47 I can take one here instead (Brandon Browner, Eric Green or Dustin Fox) then with #78 take an impact lineman like Chris Spencer or Richie Incognito.

#114 Sione Pouha goes off the board @ #113

I've yet to see a mock where DJ falls past the lions. However, that being said I'd be extremely disappointed if he fell to us and we didn't take him. To me a football player plays. All this scheme talk and what not is just crazy. If you can coach you can coach and if he can play he can play.

As far as this I'd be happy with Williamson but I totally don't understand the two RB's. I like Sproles for his speed but last I checked are we just totally giving up on re-signing DD?

I do like the 2-4 picks though.

Derek Anderson is a good quarterback. I would love to get him that late.

Dom Foxworth is a second rounder?

Absolutely no way we take Dominique Foxworth in the 2nd round. None of the 32 teams will take him in the 2nd.

Ronald Bartell is a CB from Howard, and we have shown some interest in him. I would think he is more of an option in RD 2 than Foxworth.

had to look him (Domonique Foxworth, Maryland 5111 184 4.40) up myself the book on him is he has quick feet & can lock on, staying with WR's, his catch up speed is rare. he is much higer rated than Ronald Bartell at the CB position, maybe scouts project Bartell as more of a free safety because of size and cover skills. anyway its not a terrible pick if you rank him this high (just below Justin Miller, who had a little too much fun this past weekend).

I believe I had addressed the CB need in the 3rd round of my own mock taking Stanfords Stanley Wilson who possess similar athletic skills but is not as developed cover skill wize. maybe its not such a bad pick with the Texans resigning Bradford along with Gaffney, Armstrong, Starling and the new returner Reggie Swinton

I actually like those picks a lot...The only thing I don't like is that they don't have us getting a rush backer...I think Sproles has very good potential despite his size, but I'm not sure how he'd fit in here...Terry in the 3rd would be a good pick, as would Haye...Change Foxworth with someone like Justin Tuck and that would be outstanding...

I prefer Bartell as well. the book on him is as follows

Excellent size (6'1 and 211) and speed (4.37) ....Fluid hips who is physical and aggressive. Has some upside.

The knock on him seems to he's from a smaller school. But I dont understand why that's even an issue after all these years of great players coming from small schools. Jerry rice, Walter payton, John randle, kenny houston. Etc....

I'm not saying he's on there level but the fact that he want he want to a small school is not a good reason. He has everything foxworth has and is faster and bigger.

the reports on him I read say that he is "a little stiff in the hips" that he is alert in zone coverage "with good reaction to things in front of him" & here is the clincher "does not appear to be savvy or confident in man coverage" "has some ability. good size. could be a safety."

nothing mentions his small school status as even being a factor, he is graded just like all prospects on measureables and game film.

he does have faster straight ahead speed but not quickness in the short shuttle. he is bigger @ 6' 1" and 211 than Foxworth, but Domonique is 5' 11" yet plays at the same weight as Dunta Robinson, very fluid and quick to react & not afraid to help in run support.

as far as schools Maryland is really pumping out some steller talent, just look at Merriman and last year Randy Starks. Gary Blackney, defensive coordinator of Maryland really develops excellent defenses as well as defensive players, here is a sample from his bio-

Gary Blackney is in his fourth season as the Terrapins’ defensive coordinator and secondary coach.

In three seasons, Blackney has taken the Maryland defense and transformed it from a liability to one of the best units in the nation. In each of his three years, the Terps have finished the season in the nation’s top 20 in scoring defense. In fact, only one school (Georgia) has finished higher than Maryland in the NCAA rankings each of those three years.

Last season, the Terp defense was the rock while the offense took a few games early to get on track. In the end, the team finished ranked in the nation’s top 25 in pass efficiency defense (17th, 105.86), total defense (15th, 308.4 ypg), scoring defense (sixth, 15.9 ppg) and pass defense (12th, 179.0 ypg). The unit placed five players on the conference’s first or second team and had all four defensive backs earn some sort of all-conference recognition.

In 2002, the Terrapin defense ranked first in the ACC and seventh nationally in scoring, allowing a paltry 16.3 points per game. In addition, the Maryland rushing and passing defense each ranked in the top three in the league while the team was second in the conference in sacks (37) and red-zone defense.

Under Blackney’s guidance in 2001, the Terrapin defense led the ACC in scoring defense (19.1 ppg), rushing defense (90.6 ypg) and sacks (37). In addition, the Terps were second nationally in interceptions (24) and tied for seventh in turnovers forced with 34. The 24 interceptions were the most by a Maryland team in 51 years.

the point being there be may more to the raw numbers/measureables. I know the Texans were represented at Maryland's pro day but I figured it was because of Shawne Merriman, never crossed my mind about their CB Domonique Foxworth. as a matter of fact check out the full Maryland Pro Day results-

LB Merriman (6-2, 274) was quite impressive. He ran his 40s in 4.69 and 4.66. He ran the short shuttle in 4.24 seconds. He had a 40-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-1 broad jump.
Robert Abiamiri TE (6-1 7/8, 247) ran his 40s in 4.66 and 4.69. He had a 39-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot-1 long jump, a 4.09 short shuttle, an 11.03 long shuttle, a 7.21 cone and 22 reps.
C.J. Brooks OG (6-5 1/2, 311) stood on his numbers from the combine (5.16/40). He did perform the position drills.
Jon Condo C/LS (6-2 3/8, 244) had a 32-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot-1 long jump, ran his 40s in 4.96 and 4.94, had a 4.43 short shuttle, a 7.42 three-cone drill and 14 reps.
Domonique Foxworth CB (5-11 5/8, 183) had great 40 times at the combine (4.40) so he chose not to run in College Park. He did perform the position drills.
Sam Maldonado FB (5-11¾, 224) ran his 40s in 4.74 and 4.70. He had a 31-inch vertical, a 9-foot-4 long jump, a 4.30 short shuttle, a 6.67 three-cone drill and did 19 strength reps.
Curtis Williams WR Williams (6-0 5/8, 204) ran his 40s in 4.50 and 4.52. He had a 42-inch vertical, a 10-foot-6 long jump, a 4.10 short shuttle and a 6.48 three-cone drill. http://www.nfl.com/draft/analysis/individual_workouts

wow you got me on that one

could be a great trade for the Texans if he comes in here motivated, he certainly has the talent & skill set, like Vinny said he will play the cover corner along with Glenn, Dunta in the nickle and Faggins the dime. knowing the Texans they already have a good idea of a contract extension that would help ease his mind because he is dreadfully underpaid for his position and talent, which would have alot to due with his unhappiness.

anyway see ya Foxworth, Bartell or Parish, I will enjoy following your careers, maybe you can be drafted by the Raiders and we could wind up trading for you in a couple years

the best course of action would be to begin the Mock as the draft begins
