Default DirecTV won’t charge for Sunday Ticket......

.........until lockout is resolved.

Quote:
Plenty of you have suggested that fans should respond to the lockout by blocking the automatic renewal of their NFL Sunday Ticket package from DirecTV. As it turns out, DirecTV has saved you the effort.

In a mass e-mail sent to all Sunday Ticket subscribers, DirecTV has informed customers that “[t]here will be absolutely no charge for your NFL SUNDAY TICKET subscription until it is confirmed that the 2011 NFL season will begin.”

The information also has been posted, with somewhat less clarity, on the DirecTV website.LINK

It’s a great gesture by DirecTV, especially since DirecTV currently is on the hook to pay the NFL more than $1 billion in 2011 if no football is played. Of that amount, $400 million wouldn’t be repaid by the league.

But with the NFL now very skittish about accepting any of the so-called “lockout insurance” money since it would likely have to be shared with the players, DirecTV and the other networks could be off the hook. Which makes it easier for DirecTV to not exercise its ability to take our money and hold it (and earn interest from it) until games are canceled.

I had already de-subscribed myself, sort of, but this is good news that they will do something to alleviate the potential issue of fans paying for something that might not happen this year.

I almost forgot: Screw you, Roger Goodell--Be a LEADER and get in there and bridge the gap between the two entities, instead of being a whore for the owners. You whore.

LOL

Goodell is the worst commish in NFL history and that's not even taking into account his role of lackey in the CBA negs.

He's ruining the fabric of what has made the NFL the #1 sport in this country with his silly touch football rules changes.

I know I'm focusing on wrong thing but 32 owners would keep $400million if no season. It's late & I'm tired but isn't that about $12.5 million per team?

I was wondering how much it cost Up here, I paid $29.99 for 4 months last year (on top of my regular satellite bill). It went up $5 from the previous year.

Big win for Directv from me. Although we have not received this nor any email... I told the wife about this and we have decided to bump up a premium movie channel or two sometime very very soon.

Wow. How generous of DTV to not make the consumer pay for a product that doesnt exist. And how generous of DTV to not make the fans pay for their agreement to pay the NFL even during a lockout. /sarcasm.

Are we really calling this a big win for them? I dont give 2 ****s if they are on the hook for 40 million because of a deal THEY made. They made their bed and they will sleep in it. Fine. But dont act like you are doing me a favor for not charging me for a product that doesnt exist.

Let's say owners lose $750m (returned to ESPN) but get to remove another $1billion off top that will not be shared with players, that makes up a lot of that $750m. My comments have nothing to do with this thread and I agree that it was smart thing to do (NFL ticket)but that $400million stuck out to me like a beacon on a dark night.

I'm not a DirectTV customer, nor do I have any experience with NFL Ticket. So could someone explain to me why this matters at all? If you choose not to re-subscribe to NFL Ticket for the 2011 season, can you subscribe once the labor dispute is resolved? Is there a discount for customers who had NFL Ticket in 2010, and then re-subscriber for 2011? What's the monetary issue here?

This is of course in comparison to the PSL renewals that would otherwise make someone lose their seats and such. You can clearly see the issue with losing your PSL.

I think the only thing you are missing is that some have special pricing. Maybe they got a good rate for having it for years, or maybe they complained enough. So they dont want to cancel and lose that pricing. But they also dont want to be charged for it if there is a lockout.

I would guess that is the case, but the article nor the comments mention any special pricing. If there is no incentive, then this is actually is a gesture of good will on DirectTV's part by not requiring customers to call in to cancel the subscription.

I firmly believe Directv has the highest prices overall out there but they also offer so much more on a sporting level than their competitors. It is an absolute monopoly. I also believe Directv gives out better deals to new customers or returning customers. I am a fan of Directv. Wish it was a lot cheaper...

I did that my first year here in SA, 2 years ago. I came from Austin and didnt think they would show them. What a waste of $300ish.
