Default If the Lockout Lasts much longer, quality will suffer

One man's opinion?........I don't think so.

Quote:
Charles Tillman: Only football gets players into football shape

For all the talk about how different NFL players are taking different approaches to staying in shape during the lockout, Bears cornerback Charles Tillman says thereís simply no substitute for minicamps, organized team activities and training camp.

Tillman doesnít dismiss the importance of players working out on their own, and he says heís been working hard over the last few months. But Tillman says thereís a difference between being in shape and being in football shape.

ďI donít care who you are, I think the only way to get in football shape is to do football things with the team,Ē Tillman said, per Dan Pompei of the Chicago Tribune. ďI can run like Iím Forrest Gump from one coast to the next, but if I donít do drills that pertain to football, Iím not going to be in football shape. The first day back, even guys who have been working out, it will be a little tough for them just because of the pace we go at. Itís so much faster.Ē

Tillman said heís doing his best to stay in football shape by doing football-specific drills at a San Diego training facility where several other NFL players are working out as well. But he said even that isnít quite the same as being with a full roster of teammates and a full staff of coaches at organized team activities.

So players wonít really be in football shape until they can get back to their football teams. And if the lockout lasts long enough that training camps are scrapped, we may see what regular-season games look like with players who arenít in football shape.

My theory is that, of all the possible players around the entire league who could be in shape for next season when the time finally comes, there will be only one:

Andre Johnson

The lockout is going to show how great the great ones are; and who is only there to get a paycheck.

I don't put hardly any stock into this idea, because it will be a matter of time before the cream rises to the top. Sure, some of the elite players won't be at the top of their games if they aren't playing as much, but they'll get there eventually. It's not like they're going to forget how to play football as long as they're staying in good shape which at this point of the off season most players should be. By mid season most players would be at their normal stages of their abilities.

What I think would be effected the most is Fantasy Football if there is a season since teams will have less time to prepare and certain studs may not be at their best where they could disappoint.

There will be lots, and lots, of injuries. Pulled hamstrings will be out the ying.

And that's if, we have football this year. And just don't see that happening. Unless the players knuckle under, the owners are going to wait out that anti-trust suit.

I'm already planning on what to do this fall on Sundays, and it ain't gonna be in front of the TV.

Except that with football, every single game counts. It's going to be sloppy football during the beginning of the season and we better be ready to start playing well game 1.

It's gonna be brutal for some of the Houston Draft picks like Watt from Wisconsin and Keo from the Puget Sound area of Washington state when and if they join the team and start working out for the first time in the dead of the Houston summer heat and humidity.
Ever been to Seattle ? The summers are so mild up there many, many people don't even have their homes air conditioned. Poor kid is gonna have a heat stroke.

You'll see players who aren't in football shape as well as some who aren't in shape period if the lockout doesn't end soon.

If their isn't a settlement with time for a normal lenght training camp before the game starts you can look for a lot of injuries this season. I am not as optomistic as most to this thing being settled any time soon.

What happens to next year's draft if there is no season this year?
What will the draft order be? Will draft position trades made this past year still be valid next year?

If the lockout is still ongoing next spring, you won't need to worry about a draft...........there technically won't be any.

If there is some sort of agreement, then they will probably follow a procedure similar to the one that the NHL used after their lockout............a lottery for the first 6-10 picks (looking at the last 3 years' records and playoff appearances) followed by an order reflecting the 2010 win-loss record.
