2012 Watch Lists

Ok, this lockout is killing me. Normally we are getting information about rookie free agent signings, drafted rookie signings, free agents, and camps. Now? Nothing.

To break up the monotony, I have been scouting the 2012 draft. I hope to post top 10 draft eligible prospects, along with a small school sleeper, at each position. It should also be noted that I am projecting positions from the Texans' 3-4 point of view, meaning that certain DEs may be listed as OLBs, some OLBs may be listed as ILBs, etc. Please feel free to rip up my lists, as well as post your own. This early in the game I definitely dont have enough information to make perfect lists, but my intent here is to stir up some discussion. Underclassmen denoted with an asterisk.

My first position will be ILB, and will be posted in the post below.

ILB
ILB has quickly become a position of need for the Texans. Ryans is coming off a gruesome injury, Cushing has never truly played the position, and the backups of Sharpton, Bentley, Adibi, and Keglar (who?) have been unimpressive. Luckily, the 2012 draft has a bevy of talent at the position.

I saw Tank play at the Rose Bowl, and this guy is an absolute BEAST!

65, thanks again for doing this. Not only is it helpful info, but gives me something to do besides feeding the squirrels. I like Tank but will be watching the Alabama boys. Also want to see how Texas does with their LB corps this season.

I was very disappointed in Bentley when Ryans went out. I'll give Sharpton another season before voicing too much. I was hoping for Sam Acho whom I could see at the Mike. He is very intelligent also.

An inside linebacker to look for is Florida State OLB Nigel Bradham. He's 6'2 240 and he's built like a rock. He's athletic enough to play sideline to sideline, and more than tough enough to take on offensive lineman.

Here is a film review of his game against North Carolina last season. This was maybe the biggest game of the year for the 2010 Florida State football team. It was a very close matchup, and Bradham makes big plays/hits throughout. Be conscious of the time and the situation of the plays, especially toward the end of the video.

You'll also get a little bit of a look at the way Yates ran some play action and how the North Carolina offense looks pre-snap. Some people may find that interesting now that they have learned that North Carolina runs the same offensive scheme that we do and obviously because we have Yates now.

If you ever wondered what happened to Ryan Perrilloux, this hit by Nigel was the last time I ever saw him on TV.

Players I will focus on this season: Winston Guy Kentucky SS/FS 6'1" 210 4.46 but has run a 4.39. Can play corner. 2010: 106 tackles 3 INTs.

Jayron Hosely Virginia Tech CB/KR 5'10" 172 4.42 2010: 9 INTs
Coryell Studie Texas A&M CB/KR 5'11" 188 4.42 but has run 4.32. Known as a "locked down" corner, I see him exploding up the boards as season progresses as did Kyle Wilson and Owusu that was drafted by Dallas. I really like this kid.

Yeah, school has been picking up a bit towards the end of the quarter. I have been lurking the last couple of days.

I really like Moore. So much so, that if I were GM of a team looking for a guy to groom behind someone, Moore would be worth a 3rd. The kid is a gamer. Smart, great arm, a natural leader. Only his size is holding him back.

Yeah, when I began watching him last season I had heard a lot of negative things especially his height. All he looked like was a successful QB and he pulled a lot of negative plays out with his smarts and arm. Seems to have very good field awareness. He can play on my team any time.

I like Broyles more than Jeffery and Fuller. There are going to be alot of good receivers in next year's draft. Jones and Childs at #9 and #10 are studs.

I do too, but I think that Jeffery and Fuller go ahead of Broyles. Like I mentioned in another thread, Broyles is unimpressive from a side/speed viewpoint. Teams will fall in love with Jeffery and Fuller because they have that size and athleticism.

I have my top ten lists on a word doc, but I dont really like posting a small school list during the season. But yeah, right now I count about 15 draftable small school guys.

Any surprises or disappointments so far? Alemeda Ta'amu needs to bring it.

In general, or just small school guys? In general, yeah, Ta'amu killed me last week. He looked nothing like a NFL NT- was often easily blocked by a single blocker, and was pushed out of the play, or spun himself out of the play on numerous occasions.

As far as small school guys, South Dakota OT Tom Compton is a guy that I am watching. I have him as a 3rd round prospect, and there is room for him to move up. 6'6" 310 or so, with great athleticism.

65..... what do you think of that kid Mayo at D2 Cal WR? He has over 450yds and 3TDS in 3 games with 3 of the TDS over 40 yards....at 6'2 200-210 he looks like a solid prospect. Any thoughts?

I have not had a chance to watch any film of Cal (PA) this year, and he was unimpressive last year. I will see if I can catch a game of his soon, as those are pretty good numbers.
