Default Cheta Ozougwu - Reaction to the pick?

The last pick in 2011 draft for the Houston Texans and for the entire 2011 NFL draft. I am carrying out the wish of rmartin65 who couldn't make the very last question thread so here it is.

DO NOT LIKE.

I wonder if he is supposed to be a 5 tech or an OLB.

Either way he won't make it out of camp.

Quote:
Positives: "Undersized yet athletic college defensive end who projects to outside linebacker in a 34 alignment. Plays with good lean, keeps his pads low to the ground and works his hands to get off blocks. Resilient, displays a good head for the ball and stays with the action. Fast off the edge, keeps his feet driving on contact and very competitive. Technically sound and fluid moving about the field. Has a quick burst to the action which he can turn on a single step."

Negatives: Lacks bulk and easily handled at the point of attack. Often reverts to running around blocks rather than meeting them head-on.

Analysis: Ozougwu has been a consistent defender at Rice and offers enough skill to get consideration as a pass rush specialist/outside linebacker that stands up over tackle in the NFL.

Projection: 5th

I like it... we need depth at OLB and Ozougwu was a projected 5th rounder. I don`t know him, but based on his position and projection I like the pick!

Default Re: Cheta Ozougwu - Reaction to the pick?

Positives: Quick off the snap. Active with his hands, able to shed blockers when he maintains distance. Effective bull rusher, penetrates the line of scrimmage using strength when inside. Uses lower pad level to keep leverage on the outside. Very strong wrap up and arm tackler due to his upper-body strength. Moves quickly down the line when the play is away from him. Plays with high intensity and will fight hard until the whistle blows. Keeps his head up while fighting off blocks and has good awareness of backfield action. Good awareness when dropping into coverage. Nominated for AFCA All-Good Works Team in 2010.

Negatives: Only marginal athleticism for his position. Stands straight up after the snap. Does not change directions well, struggles to recover once his momentum takes him in the wrong direction. Lack of size keeps him from playing with a strong base, allowing linemen to knock him off balance and carry him away from the play. Limited repertoire of pass-rush moves; spin move is ineffective and fails to test inside lane. Can be fooled and is slow to react to misdirection. Does not own closing speed to chase down plays from behind.

Notes: Last name is pronounced “Oh-ZOO-gwoo.” Also competed in basketball and track as a Houston-area prep. Played in 10 games as a true freshman in 2007, starting the final eight, and recorded 43 tackles, 2½ for loss and zero sacks with one pass batted down. Missed the first two games of the season, as he initially intended to redshirt. Started all 12 games played at right end in ’08, tallying 40-6-3½ with a forced fumble. Did not make the trip to Vanderbilt — opted to stay back with his family as Hurricane Ike threatened the area. Also was bothered by an ankle sprain in September. Started all 24 games at right end his final two seasons — totaled 61-10½-4½ with two batted passes in ’09 and 54-6-3 with two batted passes and three forced fumbles in ’10.

Positives: Athletic and fairly quick off the snap. Chases hard and ranges to make plays. Good feet and lateral movement. Shows burst to close. Strong tackler. Experienced, four-year starter.

Negatives: Raw instincts. Tight in the hips. Short-armed and stays blocked. Does not play with pop or power in his hands. Crumbles against the run. Engulfed by larger linemen and wiped out by double-teams. Does not drop fluidly into coverage or look comfortable moving in reverse. Inconsistent work habits. Average production. Needs to be coddled and does not respond well to hard coaching.

Summary: Undersized, smooth-muscled collegiate rush end who might be too raw, small and heavy-footed to factor — is not long, fast or athletic enough to convert to a stand-up position. Practice-squad candidate who will have to rely on pursuit effort to earn his way.

NFL projection: Priority free agent.

Nice! The Texans made a really good Mr. Irrelevant selection. "Cheddar Ogoozwoogo," as the old man said it, was a projected Round 5-6 prospect. He's yet another 3-4 player for Wade Phillips to work with. (Pick Grade: A)

Screams PR pick to me. I dont like this one bit. Why take a local player here? Take a player you dont think will sign with you as an UDFA. Bad pick in my opinion. He is a far way away from being an NFL player- small for an OLB, not sudden or explosive, no stats (only 6 TFL and 3 sacks?!). I just dont get it.

The picks makes sense. He'll be Barwin's back up, while Mark Anderson will be Reed's back up.

I have no reaction because he is a 7th rounder and if he even makes the team then that probably makes it a decent pick.
