Default Approval for L.A. stadium could take longer than expected

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...than-expected/The longer this fiasco is put off, the greater the total costs for development and construction will be. Like every other contemporary attempt, this project seems less and less likely to ever come to fruition..............California bankruptcy, anticipated increase of already high corporate taxes and commercial property taxes......... Maybe some of that money can be recouped with $10 hot dogs and $20 beers and $50 parking and ...........

Quote:
As the powers-that-be in Los Angeles try to muscle a mega-stadium into the downtown area, a rare bit of bad news has emerged.

Rich Connell of the Los Angeles Times reports that final approvals from City Hall could take up to a year. Per Connell, that’s “considerably longer” than the developer, AEG, had hoped.

Chief Legislative Analyst Gerry Miller provided an estimate that pegs the approval in roughly a year. Though AEG had hoped to move more quickly, AEG has opted for diplomacy. “We believe that the timeline described by Gerry Miller is appropriate and we are continuing to move forward with the project,” AEG said in a statement. “We look forward to an open and transparent process.”

More accurately, AEG looks forward to getting it done, sooner rather than later. But AEG realizes that later is better than not at all, so they’re apparenty opting for patience, when patience is required.

I don't get it ? As much incredible wealth as there must be present collectively among southern Cal billionairs and multi-hundred-millionaires and with a 20 million-person metro market available to an NFL franchise, why does this even take public financing ? And why hasn't anybody put a deal together down there yet ?

Is the team going to be called the L.A. Bankrupt?

Here's an idea...instead of trying to grow the game in England with the annual game in London, just hold those games in L.A. Heck, add six or seven more if ya want. The people in L.A. would only be interested in the visiting team anyway if they ever got a team since most are transplants. That way you keep the league at an even 32 teams and tarp manufactures everywhere would be joyous!

I actually kind of like this. Instead of going to an 18 game schedule, the Owners and the Players could compromise on a 17 game schedule, with 8 home games, 8 road games, and one neutral field game (which could still be overseas, but could also be in LA or some other "Non-NFL" city). With the elimination of two pre-season games, the players net a one game decrease, and a shorter pre-season (which are probably harder practice sessions than during the regular season - even if the veterans play minimal snaps in the games).

Season ticket holders net a one game break - and that game is one I'm guessing the vast majority doesn't want to watch anyway.

Granted - it eliminates a couple of revenue opportunities, but between the extra TV dollars from a regular season game, and some modifications to the playoff format (add a seventh team in each conference, and only the #1 seed gets a bye), perhaps it could be made palatable to the owners.

I thought this stadium WAS going to be privately financed--100%.

So let me get this straight. Back in 99, when Mcnair proposed a Houston team, the league set a race between Houston and LA to see who could have a finished product. Mcnair wins that race, and then the league give LA another shot, and Mcnair beats them out again in 2001. Ever since then the league has been trying to get a team in LA and it always fails.

I'd say we are way past longer expecations. How about you just quit on the idea. The city appearantly has made their point.

Well then what's the holdup with the city, because I assumed the deal was subject to LA underwriting/insuring the financing for the stadium, hence the delay in making a decision ? If taxpapers don't have any exposure to the new stadium, what is it with LAs delay in pulling the trigger ?

This doesn't surprise me at all! If I'm not mistaken McNair was early on all his proposals to the League Office during that time and L.A. basically missed every single deadline that was set. The League kept extending these and L.A. still couldn't get their sh*t together.

Last time I checked both stadium projects are privately financed. Maybe AEG has changed their mind but I seriously doubt it since that would give Roski a huge upper hand in getting his stadium built. The only real hold up I believe is the lockout and until that is taken care of I don't think they can try to lure a team to L.A.

And if you notice we get an extra penalty every game for it.

That's what I remember too. The NFL kept bending over backwards for L.A., but eventually had to "cave" and allow poor Bob to pay them $700 million (NOT shared with the players) to join the club.

LA is such a joke.

I'll believe this stupid stadium being built when I see a team kicking off inside of it.

McNair did an awesome job getting the team. Too bad he hasn't done the same running the team.
