Default The Jets, for some reason, seem to want Randy Moss

Quote:
Randy Moss(notes), once upon a time, was the most unstoppable receiver in the NFL. It was easy to forget that last year, though, as he was spectacularly unproductive with three different teams in one season.

Still, there's apparently a team out there that would love to have Randy wearing its uniform: It's the "no head case is too wacky for us" New York Jets. Here's Vic Carucci of NFL.com:

Although Moss is 34 and is entering his 14th NFL season, there is at least one coach who believes he still can make a significant impact: the Jets' Rex Ryan.

[...]

According to multiple league insiders, the interest the Jets have in Moss is twofold. One, it could help them weather the very real possibility of losing at least one of their three free-agent receivers: [Santonio] Holmes, Braylon Edwards(notes) and Brad Smith(notes). Two, it would keep Moss from returning to the Patriots, whom he is known to want to re-join.

I sure hope he does join the Jets. Let them sign Terrel Owens and Ocho Cinco, then the world can die a happy death in 2012.

Moss is such a loser. I mean if this dude could just keep his mouth shut & play all out for an entire game consistently he'd probably still be in NE right now.

Brady....Favre......Smith.........Sanchez. That's quite a step down & i don't know how much productivity Ryan thinks he's gonna get out of this dude with Mark "pedo" Sanchez throwing to him.

There will be many other pretty good wide receivers out there this year once free agency begins and none of them are anywhere near the head case which Moss is.

Why would anyone think this is a bad move? If Moss doesn't work out then so what. It's not like he's TO where he tears the entire team apart. I don't think anyone would pay Moss that much money after last season. Moss still has huge play potential and can be a guy that can hit double digit TD's again. It's always a motivational thing with him though. Rex Ryan seems like the kind of guy that could possibly motivate him as well. This is low risk high reward really. Moss would still be a better option than Braylen Edwards.

It's not a bad move, it's an aggressive move.

It also could be all BS created by Moss' agent to pressure the Patriots into making a move.

Don't think the Pats want Moss back at all after seeing him suck everywhere including there last season especially since their offense actually improved once he was gone.

He was productive early. Remember that catch v. Revis? That was 9 months ago. Dude still has talent and isn't as bad of a teammate as some would think. I would have no problem with the Texans picking Jim up.

Jets using Moss to motivate Holmes: report

10:57 PM, April 12, 2011

Posted: 5:57 PM, April 12, 2011

Randy Moss isn't even close to joining the Jets and he's already causing controversy.

Despite several reports that the Jets have interest in the troublesome wide receiver, SNY Jets host Adam Schein says the team has "no interest" in signing the free agent.

Schein, writing for FOXSports.com, speculates that the Jets' supposed interest in Moss is a ploy to get Santonio Holmes to sign a contract to stay and participate in offseason workouts.

Rumors of Moss to the Jets picked up steam when Rex Ryan endorsed the former Patriots receiver at the NFL owners meetings in late March.

It's yet to be seen whether or not Ryan has a genuine interest in Moss or if he is simply trying to put pressure on Holmes, a restricted free agent under the expired NFL collective bargaining agreement.

“Randy Moss, I’ve said all along, is a great vertical receiver,’’ Ryan said in New Orleans, according to Boston.com. “And you have to roll coverage. Most teams would have to roll coverage to him. We never did, but we got burned for a touchdown. But he was a weapon. A vertical weapon down the field.’’

CBSSports.com and NFL.com also reported that the Jets have an interest in Moss. ESPN.com says they do not.

The Jets could lose Holmes, Braylon Edwards and Brad Smith to free agency, depending on a new labor deal. Under current rules, the Jets placed a restrictive one-year contract tender on Holmes.

Holmes said last week he is not interested in signing a one-year deal. If the Jets refuse to meet to Holmes' multiyear demands, he could leave, forcing the Jets to look elsewhere for a veteran wide receiver.

"I want a contract, flat out," Holmes said, according to ESPN.com. "If I sign a contract, it will be for multiple years. It won't be for one year."

He also said he still was unhappy with offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer after he did not start the AFC Championship against his former team, the Steelers, the ESPN.com report says.

FOX Sports adds that Holmes may not attend Mark Sanchez's passing camp in California next month.

Holmes, asked by ESPN.com if he would re-sign with the Jets if offers are equal, replied, "That's a tough question right there. I'm going to leave that one undisclosed. I don't know right now."

Moss could end up being the best free-agent option to replace Holmes or Edwards if either does not re-sign with the Jets. It also would keep Moss from reuniting with Tom Brady and the Patriots.

Some have speculated that Moss' character issues would not be an issue for Ryan, who is known for managing big egos.

Last season, the Patriots traded Moss to the Vikings, who released the wide receiver after four games when he criticized head coach Brad Childress in a press conference. Moss signed with the Titans and caught six passes for 80 yards in the final eight games of season.

Oh, I'd take him over here in a heart beat. He's probably going to be one of the best investments in free agency anyone can make this off season considering the return you could possibly get if he works out, because he can't demand a lot of money this off season. You put him next to a guy like AJ and that's a hell of a lot to try and stop when AJ needs to be double teamed.
