Default NFL Players Jumping Ship

Is this just talk or might it be for real?

I started a thread about the possiblities of players starting their own leauge but it didn't get much play.

I hadn't really thought about another leauge just picking them up and getting a tv contract so that american cities could watch them play.

If I were the players I would not cave. But I am stubborn like that. I'd actually take s little less money to go play somewhere else and tell the owners to go screw themselves.

I think NFL must consider this happening.

Yeah...

I'd love to see it happen. A few Owners would look kind of silly with their big stadiums not being used for anything besides concerts and high school football.

Makes no sense for the players, especially those like Babin. He is a FA this year. If he gets injured in this non NFL game, he loses big $. If he struggles against the non NFL players, he loses big $. If he plays well, then great, he was supposed to, he was an NFL player. It makes 0 sense for a superstar to play.

The non superstar players could be a blackballed for choosing to go to another league.

Makes 0 sense to do this.

They aren't talking about a couple of players. They are talking about a collective effort.

If they got a vast majority of NFL players to go to another league then essentially it's still the NFL product.

Wouldn't that be a trip? If 32 other *******s with more money than they know what to do with step up and "buy the NFL" out of their own players? I'm rooting for it just to see something like that happen for once.

Then do it Babin!!

I'd love to watch this happen. The players will all feel like a bunch of dumbasses at the end of this when they go to another league and things are a lot different. They're only going to screw themselves and eventually they'll all come crawling back with even worse leverage the next time around. Go for it NFL players. Put your money where your mouth is.

It's not gonna happen. The stars won't move. Peyton isn't walking. Neither is Brady, Brees, etc.

You may get some players like Babin who want to make a statement, but the stars know the money they get from a new league is nothing compared to the NFL. The stars are too smart to jump ship and thus this won't happen.

These guys are competitors. They do not want to lose in any facet of life. If they truly think that the NFL is screwing them and refuse to cave, then the only other alternative may be to not play at all.

I don't think that it is likely, but I would not completely rule it out.

Doesnt matter who the hell it is - even with names like Peyton Manning or Tom Brady , forming a new league would be near impossible.
Where the hell are they going to play the games ? Getting a stadium deal would be the first major hurdle in each city. The owners hold the stadium rights in the current venues. Then you'd have TV rights both local and national to deal with ....
What are they going to do for coaches ? They are still under the thumb of the owners. Would they pillage the college ranks or hire a bunch of has beens or no names ?
How would the players be allocated to the new teams ?
The logistics of the players forming their own league is just too broad in scope to imagine them pulling it off in time for a regularly scheduled season. It could take them 3-5 years to get all the bull**** worked out and by that time half of them are washed up ....

Joining other leagues already intact would be the main alternative but then you have to consider that almost every player joining that other league is going to take a substantial pay cut. What happens if they get seriously injured .... individual players stand to lose far too much in this scenario for any of the higher profile , higher paid players to take that risk.

They'll work this **** out with the owners but we might lose preseason and more before they figure it out.

Bingo. How the hell are the players going to do something like this and get all that done? It's impossible. They'd be complete fools, because they'd lose so much money in the process of waiting for all these things to take place. They could never just start some new league all of a sudden. And if they go to the UFL, they'd all look just as stupid, because they'd be getting paid less than what they're complaining about now. I can't believe that AP and Mendenhall are now actually comparing themselves to slaves either. Well, actually I can, but talk about insulting to every day people who actually work extremely tough blue collar jobs where they are like slaves. The fact is there is no better situation than the NFL for these guys. The further this goes, the more I think a work stoppage needs to happen so the players can get a needed wake up call and realize how good they have it.
