This guy seemed to mess up every drill he ran. I can not believe the excuses Mayock kept making for him. He has the stats and maybe the skills but he kept stumbling and his foot work did not impress me. I sure hope he goes top 10.

Agree. Heard he may have been a little upright at times but overall he smoked it and kept his stock soaring.

Miller has been wowing scouts since the NFL Draft process began. Whether he was dominating the Senior Bowl, where pundits called him the best player all week, or throwing up unthinkable numbers at the NFL Combine, Miller has been ascending up draft boards. The All-American and Butkus Award winner is incredibly athletic and has put on the necessary weight to play outside linebacker in either a 3-4 or 4-3 defense. Miller is a great playmaker on the edge and has all the tools to be a perennial pro-bowler. Most draft projections have the Aggie going in the Top-5 of April's draft.

He was described as being a little bit raw and erratic in some of the drills that were meant to test his pass coverage abilities, but in the pass rushing drills he was highly praised.

Former Texas A&M LB Von Miller did not nothing to hurt the perception that he's a potential top-five draft pick with his showing at the NFL scouting combine Monday.

Miller, last year's Butkus Award winner, seems to be a natural fit for the Buffalo Bills (No. 3 pick) Arizona Cardinals (No. 5) or San Francisco 49ers (No. 7) ... assuming he lasts that long.

Miller, who is expected to transition full time to outside linebacker in the NFL next season, posted an outstanding 40-yard dash time (4.53 seconds), which isn’t very surprising if you’ve seen him play. Miller’s game tape shows that he has tremendous edge rush speed. He also did well in the 20-yard shuttle.

It’s important to note that the pass rusher weighed in at 246 pounds, up nine pounds from his Senior Bowl weight. Scouts would like to see him play at somewhere between 245 and 248 pounds, a personnel source said.

Texas A&M LB Von Miller – As unbelievable as it seems, Miller's stock rose even higher at the Combine. He now seems like a lock for a top five overall pick in April's NFL Draft. Miller displayed unbelievable athleticism, especially for his size. He weighed in at 246 pounds, yet managed to run a 4.46 40-yard dash. Miller only played in defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter's 3-4 scheme for one season, meaning he has limited experience in coverage. Before the switch in College Station, Miller played almost exclusively with his hand on the ground in a three-point stance. However, during individual drills, scouts and analysts were wowed by his movement and recognition in pass coverage.

It seems obvious to point out, but over the past two seasons, no player in college football terrified opposing quarterbacks more than Von Miller. Even with a gimpy ankle and a slow start, Miller came on fast and furious at the end of the year to register 10.5 sacks, which led the Big 12. His 17.5 tackles for loss in 2010 placed him second in the conference. He even intercepted a pass to clinch a victory at bitter rival Texas. At this point, the basement for Miller to be picked is probably fifth overall by the Arizona Cardinals. Some draftniks have him going off the board to Buffalo, which holds the third pick. Either way, Miller should be sitting pretty in the Green Room on draft night.

Hopefully a good to go Barwin on one side with Miller on the other. Then you have Cushing in the Middle who would seem to be an above avg pass rusher from the MLB position.

Oh yeah...Mario and Antonio Smith on the D-line...

Miller would be a good compliment of speed and explosiveness to that front 7.

Actually he did have pretty bad footwork at the combine. I watched it. But his numbers were still great because of his freakish athletic ability. This dude is a monster. If he weighed 246 pounds at the combine 200 of it was his legs. If the Texans ever trade up in the draft I hope its for Von Miller.

Could Vernon Gholston become the new Mike Mamula?

In the past, any Combine workout wonder was inevitably compared to Mamula as a cautionary tale. Now it’s possible that any deceptively productive, potentially stiff pass rusher could be compared to Gholston.

“[Miller's] got some Vernon Gholston in him,” former NFL scout Dave Razzano told Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com.

“I’m not a big Von Miller fan,” Razzano said. “In looking at Big-12 tape, he does not have a motor. He doesn’t chase hard. They run at him, and he doesn’t fight off blockers. When he gets sacks, a lot of times he’s not getting blocked. He’s a one-move guy.”

Miller was a fast riser after a huge senior season, but was seen as an inconsistent performer before.

Dave Razzano, who spent more than two decades as an NFL scout and appears regularly on Comcast SportsNet's "Chronicle Live," believes whichever team spends a high draft pick on Miller will ultimately be disappointed.

"He's got some Vernon Gholston in him," Razzano said, referring to the sixth overall pick of the New York Jets in 2008. Gholston failed to record a sack in 42 games and was released this offseason.

OLB Robert Quinn, North Carolina: Razzano believes he's versatile enough to play defensive end (which he would play on nickel downs in the 49ers' defense) and outside linebacker in any scheme. "He's a big, tough guy and he's relentless," Razzano said. "Good players find a way, and he's a good player. I've seen him stand up. He has the movement and he looks like he's athletic enough."

CB Patrick Peterson, LSU: "He's not a great one, but he's really good," Razzano said. "He has great size and speed. He's big, and he can turn and run with people. But for as big as he is, I thought he'd be a lot more physical."

CB Prince Amukamara, Nebraska: "I'm not a big Amukamara guy," Razzano said. "Against Oklahoma State, he got beat so bad over the top. He did not react to the ball consistently. His ball-reaction and demeanor weren't good." Oklahoma State receiver Justin Blackmon had five catches for 157 yards and two touchdowns in a 51-41 loss to Nebraska.

I asked Razzano to rank these four players, and his order was Quinn, Peterson, Amukamara and Miller. But, he said, if Clemson defensive end Da'Quan Bowers somehow slips, the 49ers should take him. Also, he said the 49ers could do a lot worse than moving back into the middle of the first and selecting Iowa defensive end Adrian Clayborn.

I've had some weird feeling lately that Miller could very well slip to us... and was even thinking of making a mock with him available at 11. I think he's a risky selection, but he's got the work ethic and character that I like. I think he's a guy that is going to do everything he can to be good unlike Gholston and Maybin.

With his stock constantly rising, it’s difficult to project Miller falling to the Dallas Cowboys at No. 9. And perhaps the Cowboys aren’t zeroing in on Miller.

After all, they didn’t give him much attention at the combine.,,,,,,,

When asked if he interviewed with the Cowboys at the combine in Indianapolis, Miller responded: "Not at the Combine. I was kind of bummed out that I didn't get an interview from the Cowboys. I kind of hovered around their suite, and whenever they got free time in between college guys, guys they were meeting with, I'd kind of go in there and kind of talk to the scouts and try to pull Coach Garrett aside and Coach Ryan and see if I could get a little session with them, a two-minute thing where I could talk to them. I was trying my hardest to meet with all those guys, but they told me they have like a hometown [day].”

And that is true. There is a local day where the Cowboys’ brass will get a chance to speak extensively with the former Aggie.

Added Miller: "I wanted to be like a little gnat. I wanted to hover around their suite and let them know that I really would appreciate a meeting. But it's all business, and whenever I get my chance with the Cowboys, I'll be well prepared for my opportunity."

Miller was also asked about being a Cowboys fan, growing up in the area and being familiar with the team.

"I always saw myself with a blue star on the side of my helmet,” Miller said. “Growing up in Dallas, all my life I've never ever lived anywhere else. So of course I'm a big Cowboys fan. Our game room at my house is fully dedicated to the Cowboys. From Roger Staubach to Troy Aikman to Emmitt Smith to Michael Irvin, all those guys. We've got a Ring of Honor just in our game room at home."

As for how he would feel if Jerry Jones made him the Cowboys' top pick, Miller said: "It'd be a true blessing. It'd really be a dream come true by playing in the NFL and playing for the team that I always dreamed of playing for. It'd really be a true blessing to go home and play in Dallas and play in [Cowboys] Stadium. It'd be a dream come true, I'd probably pass out, you know."
