FA signings CB Ike Taylor provides vet leadership, solid CB, has played in 3-4.
FA signing NT Gabe Watson vet space eater, Should come cheap (Appealling to Bob) FA signing Johnnie Lee Higgins upgrades the KR/PR game immediately, Speed like Jacoby Jones but has better hands, Not a good route runner but neither is Jacoby. Provides deep speed to strech the field and open up running lanes. Mock draft using Rob Rang at CBS sports as my draft rd guide. Rd.1 Justin Houston OLB, Georgia, Experience in 3-4 give Houston the edge over my 2nd choice Kerrigan. Trading down for more picks would be optimal. Plus Houston is on the clock and they select Houston would be kinda cool. Rd.2 Muhammed Wilkerson DT/DE Temple, Wilkerson did 26 reps at the combine and had the longest arms by far 35.25 inches. At almost 6'5 and 315 LBS Wilkerson has the frame to put on 30 LBS and be a stud NT. He did all of the at the combine and tested very well. I would be willing to trade the 2011 2nd and a 2012 3rd to move into the bottom of the 1st rd and take Wilkerson. He's going to be a really good player and adds a physical presence. Rd.3 Davon House CB New Mexico St., Has best hips to turn and run with a WR in the draft. House ran a 4.46 at the combine today. At 6'1 and 200 LBS he has a solid frame and he as almost 32 in arms. Bad hands is the reason he falls this far. But if I had to trade a 2011 3rd and OkOye to move into the bottom of the 2nd rd I would. This kid makes Jackson look like Petey Faggins. Rd.4 Joe Lefeged S Rutgers, BL's guy good job. Dont know alot about him but he tore up the combine and they were talking on NFLN about what a great ST playmaker he was. The Texans could use this. Lefeged has speed 4.46 and a great vertical. BL said he was a playmaker at S for Rutgers. Rd.5 Brandon Bair DT Oregon, Bair has long ars and is 6'6 274, so he has room to put on morevweight. Plays great motor and will get better with time as he adds strength. Bair's work ethic is really high. Rd.6 De Marcus Van Dyke CB Mia. Van Dyke was the fastest player at the combine. Has long arms. Will be a great gunner on ST's, while he gains weight/strength while working with the Texans S&C and nutritionist. Wade coached Van Dyke in the East/West Shrine Game. Rd.7 Chris White ILB Miss St. This is a guy I see in the Zach Thomas mold, smart intense football player, White will help improve the ST's Rd. 7 (Dunta comp pick, Lucky I put the comp pick at back of 7th RD LOL) Vidal Hazelton WR Cincy, Hazelton played well his Frosh yr at USC, then got hurt. (I think high ankle) He transferred to Cincy because he wanted to be closer to his cancer stricken grandfather. (High character) Unfortunately he tore his ACL in his 1st game at Cincy. He's completely rehabbed the knee and will run at his pro day. Hazelton was a big fast 6'2 215 LBS kid who KR/PR at USC. If Hazelton is healthy he would be a 1st/2nd rd talent. By being agressive and moving up in the draft this mock provides much needed help to all 3 levels on defense with really talented players. Much needed depth on the DL and makes the ST's that were dreadful last yr much improved. Hopefully Rick and Gary will be agressive in FA and the draft this offseason. This draft sets up very well to bring in young fast guys to upgrade the woefully slow defense the Texans were last yr. Let the critiques begin. |

wilkerson will be a 1st round pick, book it. it'd be a hell of a draft if we landed both him and houston.

Especially if you believe BoB read Gary and Rick the riot act. Win next yr or your gone. If I were in Gary and Rick's shoes I would be trading all kinds of future picks to try to load up the defense with top tier defensive players in this draft. Carolina did this 3 yrs ago won their division and saved Fox and Hurney's job. Something similar could happen with Rick and Gary this yr. Hopefully Wade will have alot of input on the defensive players that are drafted. |

Who else have the Texans drafted from New Mexico St? House is a good cover CB (Better than anything the Texans ran out on the field last yr.) He's a solid 200 lbs. With good speed and arm length. Houses' only downside is bad hands. I really want those 3 guys on this defense. They are difference makers and if trading assets to get them is necessary Rick and Gary should be agressive, be bold and do the deal. This is what has been lacking in the Texans war room. |

Weak excuses, yet typical The CBA should have nothing to do with trying to aquire the most talented players possible. I would rather have those 3 guys and no other draft picks. Than have a bunch of later picks when Gary and Rick are picking the Moldens,McCains and Okams of the world. When you're as bad as Rick and Gary are at drafting you need to get as many 1st,2nd,3rd rd picks as possible and forget the late rd sleeper thing. This philosophy will help cut down on Rick and Garys bust rate. I take it all back (See OkOye/Jackson) LOL |

I'd be pleased with this draft. I think Lefeged moved himself up out of the 4th round with his Combine performance, though. |

the FS from Fresno State impressed me too. 4th rd. is a good spot to address FS with this crop, less risk, good valueation & should be productive.

I like the mock. I would also be happy with Brooks Reid in the second.
I could see us trading back, grabbing Wilkerson late in rd 1, Reid in rd 2, then I'd be happy with the rest of your picks. If we picked up an extra pick I would mind adding buster skrine in the middle rounds, he has great movement skills and is obscenely fast. He would provide us with a DB to groom for the future and a KR/PR in the present. Shilo Keoh (sp?) is another S that could be a great pick, not a supreme athlete but has great feet and a great nose for the game. Kind of like a S version of Zach Thomas. |

If Rick were to take Wilkerson or Watt, I wouldn't be upset. Reed should be availabe at 43. He would be a great pick, great motor, sneaky quick with great explosion will be a great ST guy. You can tell football means something to this guy. |
