Quote:
Former Houston Cougars and Dallas Cowboys center Ben Fricke died on Monday from colon cancer. He was 35.

Fricke was the offensive line coach and offensive coordinator at Frisco Centennial High School for the last three years. He was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer in January and lost his seven-week battle with the disease on Monday morning.

A memorial service in Fricke's honor will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Frisco, with a reception following.

At UH, Fricke was a four-year letterman (1994-97), a Football Writer's Association of America first team All-American and Associated Press and Sporting News second team All-American in 1997. He was a two-time first-team Conference USA selection (1996 and 1997) and a member of the Cougars' 1996 Conference USA championship team.

Fricke was selected in the seventh round of the 1997 NFL draft by the New York Giants and went on to play three seasons for the Cowboys (1999-2001).

He is survived by his wife Amy Diamond Fricke and their two children son Luke and daughter Synneva.
