When the questions came up of what real pedigree our Texans coaches have enjoyed or how they may be related, I came across this unbelieveable source tracing NFL coaching trees essentially back to the Stone Age of the NFL.

So what you are saying is that pretty much every coach is descended from the Paul Brown or Sid Gilman coaching tree? Wow.

Is the Al Davis who coached the Raiders in 63-65 the same Al Davis who owns the team?

Our former head coach Capers was from the Paul Brown tree.

Our current head coach is from the Sid Gillman tree. While coach Kubiak has brought in the following coaches to help him coach various areas: Mike Sherman, Ray Rhodes, and Wade Phillips. What do they all have in common: they are all part of the Sid Gillman tree. However, Phillips comes from Bum who was a direct connection to Sid. Kubiak, Rhodes, and Sherman come from Bill Walsh who has connection to both SId Gillman and Paul Brown.

So, you can say Wade Phillips is probably the most different former head coach we have brought into Houston since he is the first who has no connection whatsoever to Paul Brown.

Yes. He has done darn near everything one can be one mangerial and administravie side: Head coach, General Manager, AFL Cimmissioner, Owner.

He was truly innovative and maveric. The Radiers were a very good sometimes great on the field franchise for the better part of 4 decades (really until the tuck rule game).

It really is weird how that one game changed the futures of the Raiders and the Patriots. Although to be fair, the Raiders did have 1 more good year after the tuck rule game. After they were crushed in the SB by Gruden and the Buccs, THEN it was over. Everything fell apart after that.

Its kind of true though, the Al Davis of today is a shell of his former self. Anyone see the Raiders press conference where Al announced Hue Jackson as the new HC? The guy is in terrible shape. Its amazing, Al Davis is 81 and Ralph Wilson is 92 but Ralph looks 20 years younger compared to Al.

I was saying that it would be great if they would have gone back further and shown the football branches that came from Sid Gillman and Al Davis; but if you follow the link they have that as well.
