Nightmare Scenario - Wade Phillips as our HC

I haven't seen this posted anywhere else but if I missed it...please merge.

Let's say that Kubiak stays and Wade is hired as DC...this seems to be the likely scenario at this point.

In 2011...hypothetically lets say this team starts out 2-5 and McNair decides enough is enough and fires Kubes mid season. Then what happens??? He will promote Wade as interim HC...followed by the removal of the interim tag at the end of the 2011 season.

This concerns me more than Kubes staying. If I recall, Wade has managed to get a couple of HC jobs when the HC was fired mid season.

It would be a nightmare, but considering Bob McNair doesn't like to pull the trigger on tough decisions and fire someone when it's time, he won't likely fire a coach part way through the season. That's just my opinion, though.

It would be an improvement over Kubiak. For all of Wade's shortcomings he wins at a 58% clip in the regular season. I suppose after a few years of 1 and out of the playoffs I would come to despise him but from where I'm standing the playoffs look pretty good. Its not going to happen anyway though.

yep. I said it when Dallas fired Wade, and hiring him as our DC is a glimpse into the next 5-7 years of this franchise. As soon as Gary fails - not if but when - McNair will do just as you stated: promote from within. And Wade would only continue the tradition of perpetual mediocrity that has plagued this franchise from the beginning of it's existence.

If he didn't do it to Capers in 2005, then that tells you all you need to know.

I said this in my thread about looking deeper at Wade Phillips. It seems everywhere he has gone the organization has been lulled into believing the team plays for him, and then they all fire him because he's lost control of the locker room.

This isn't nearly as much of a nightmare as having Kubiak as the HC.

Kubiak is back here next year as the HC. It's now official. Period. Get over it.
Now about Phillips as the DC ? We can do far worse. And I like the prospects of going to the 3-4, especially with one who's been as successful with it as Phillips. And we'd be the only non 4-3 team in the division, which in and of itself can be an advantage, though not necessarily.

The move also will give the Texans a potential in-house replacement for Kubiak, in the event that the team stumbles in 2011. The fact that Wade is the son of legendary Oilers coach Bum Phillips will make him only more attractive to possibly do to Kubiak what Jason Garrett did to Wade Phillips this year in Dallas.
