The excuses are rolling in for McNair now. He won't even have to use the CBA uncertainty as an excuse for keeping Kubiak.

I think it's highly unlikely we'll make the playoffs at this point... most will agree to that. But I really really want to see us win out and go 8-8.

With that said, IND's and JAC's schedules are not cake walks.

IND - home against JAC (winnable); @ OAK (Oakland is better than people give them credit for); home against TEN (division rival, dirty tacks, last game of the season)

JAC - @ IND (Indy's good); home against WAS (Washington isn't a slouch); @ HOU (a must win game for us anyway you slice it).

The odds certainly aren't in our favor but stranger things have happend.


Oh... and I hope these guys get better soon!

It would probably be better to lose out and get some more help in the draft. I just can't root against them once the games start though.

Mario has a sports hernia and has not been himself for weeks. He needs to have the thing surgically repaired. It's better to do this now then after the rest of the season where we have no chance in hell of getting to the playoffs. Get a 30 day jump on the thing.

cant believe people are still talking play-off scenarios on this board. seasons over. glad theyre letting Mario rest and get better, we will need him for next year. I hate to say it but i dont really want the texans to win the next 3. Everytime they do that it makes me feel like we turned the corner and might finally be a play-off team and then next season starts and its another mediocre season. Better to get a high draft pick and hopefully a new head coach than have to endure another year of mediocre play.

Houston Texans defensive end Mario Williams, who went to the past two Pro Bowls, is out for the remainder of the season.

The Texans said Wednesday that Williams had been placed on season-ending injured reserve. He struggled with injuries since September, and a groin injury was listed as the reason for the move.

"He just wasn't getting better," Texans coach Gary Kubiak said, according to the team's official website. "He will have surgery early next week."

The Texans also placed wide receiver David Anderson (shoulder) and guard Mike Brisiel (calf) on injured reserve.

The Houston Chronicle reported via Twitter that the Texans are expected to sign veteran defensive end Jarvis Green to take Williams' roster spot. Green played eight seasons for the New England Patriots before being released during the offseason. He spent time with the Denver Broncos this season, but he didn't play in a game.

The Texans' official website also reported that the team signed defensive tackle DeMario Pressley off the New Orleans Saints' practice squad and promoted wide receiver Derrick Townsel from their own practice squad.

The Texans (5-8) visit the Tennessee Titans (5-8) on Sunday. If the AFC South-leading Jacksonville Jaguars win one of their final three games, the Texans will be eliminated from postseason contention for the ninth consecutive year.

It would have be much smarter to take care of his "problem" during training camp when the problem first reared its ugly head.......or when the decision was made to not operate after seeing the "sports hernia doctor" the beginning of August for what is obvious to have included the diagnosis of sports hernia and likely a concommitant hip problem. As I said back during the beginnings of his problem, he should have been rested immediately and definitively treated so that he would be available by the 2nd half of the season when the most important run would occur. As it turns out, injured Mario has had very sparing isolated glimpses of greatness and has overal made quite pedestrian contributions to the season. This is consistent with what could have been expected with what has recently been admitted to.

The Texans' organization decision making tree has been defective down the line in every aspect of the game.........including in the most important, the medical.

Granted, and you were very strong in your opinon at the time. It didn't happen. Now that this track has been taken, is this something that surgery will correct and Mario, after rehab, return 100% or will he ever be the same?

Is the medical staff the Texans are currently using the same ones that they had back in '02?
