[CHRONIC] John McLain reporting Super Mario, David Anderson and Mike Brisel on IR

The likelihood of this happening is rather unlikely but I got to ask the question.

If Indy beats Jville and then loses to Oak and Tenn, while Jville then loses to washington and us and we are all tied at 8-8. Who wins the division? And if somehow it is us, can we bring Mario back?

I don't have the link, however I do have a pretty good memory. Last year, Kareem Jackson was the "most NFL ready corner" because he played for Nick Saban. Now he may or may not have been, but he was one of the top three corners in the draft. Our current staff can't make players out of their draft picks.

If, at the end of the regular season, two or more clubs in the same division finish with identical won-lost-tied percentages, the following steps will be taken until a champion is determined.
Two Clubs

1. Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs).
2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
5. Strength of victory.
6. Strength of schedule.
7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
9. Best net points in common games.
10. Best net points in all games.

In order for the 8-8 tie to happen in the AFC south, Jacksonville must go 0-3, and Indy must go 1-2 with that win coming against Jacksonville, but lose to the Raiders and Titans. Yeah right...

IF all that happens, which has a snowballs chance in hell, we will lose the common game tie-breaker to Indy at the very least. Indy lost to SD, NE, HOU, Phi, Dal and Jax. We lost to NYG, Dal, Balt, Phi, SD, NYJ, Indy, Jax. Common non-div opponents are Dal, NYG, Phi and SD so far. We lost 4 of those 4, they lost 3, so we are behind, unless Oakland somehow beats the Colts and the Titans beat them as well. It certainly doesn't look likely.

But Indy will have a 3-3 div. record and we will have a 4-2.
 
im glad they did this. Get Mario some rest.

Would also like to see AJ and Foster in severely reduced rolls. Ideally maybe even put AJ on IR. But AJ being AJ, you know he would nvr let that happen.
 
Please stop it with the tiebreaker scenarios already....It's over. I'd be fine with losing all but the 2nd tacks game so we can see what bob's gonna do.
 
The excuses are rolling in for McNair now. He won't even have to use the CBA uncertainty as an excuse for keeping Kubiak.

We improved our red zone efficiency. If you look at it, not having Cushing the first 4 games, Mario, he was never healthy all year, we lost Demeco and Connor for the year early, so the defense never had a chance to gel. I think it's highly unlikely we'll make the playoffs at this point... most will agree to that. But I really really want to see us win out and go 8-8.

With that said, IND's and JAC's schedules are not cake walks.

IND - home against JAC (winnable); @ OAK (Oakland is better than people give them credit for); home against TEN (division rival, dirty tacks, last game of the season)

JAC - @ IND (Indy's good); home against WAS (Washington isn't a slouch); @ HOU (a must win game for us anyway you slice it).

The odds certainly aren't in our favor but stranger things have happend.


Oh... and I hope these guys get better soon!

It would probably be better to lose out and get some more help in the draft. I just can't root against them once the games start though.
 
Mario has a sports hernia and has not been himself for weeks. He needs to have the thing surgically repaired. It's better to do this now then after the rest of the season where we have no chance in hell of getting to the playoffs. Get a 30 day jump on the thing.

Makes sense to me.
 
cant believe people are still talking play-off scenarios on this board. seasons over. glad theyre letting Mario rest and get better, we will need him for next year. I hate to say it but i dont really want the texans to win the next 3. Everytime they do that it makes me feel like we turned the corner and might finally be a play-off team and then next season starts and its another mediocre season. Better to get a high draft pick and hopefully a new head coach than have to endure another year of mediocre play.

The Texans said Wednesday that Williams had been placed on season-ending injured reserve. He struggled with injuries since September, and a groin injury was listed as the reason for the move.

"He just wasn't getting better," Texans coach Gary Kubiak said, according to the team's official website. "He will have surgery early next week."

The Texans also placed wide receiver David Anderson (shoulder) and guard Mike Brisiel (calf) on injured reserve.

The Houston Chronicle reported via Twitter that the Texans are expected to sign veteran defensive end Jarvis Green to take Williams' roster spot. Green played eight seasons for the New England Patriots before being released during the offseason. He spent time with the Denver Broncos this season, but he didn't play in a game.

The Texans' official website also reported that the team signed defensive tackle DeMario Pressley off the New Orleans Saints' practice squad and promoted wide receiver Derrick Townsel from their own practice squad.

The Texans (5-8) visit the Tennessee Titans (5-8) on Sunday. If the AFC South-leading Jacksonville Jaguars win one of their final three games, the Texans will be eliminated from postseason contention for the ninth consecutive year.

It would have be much smarter to take care of his "problem" during training camp when the problem first reared its ugly head.......or when the decision was made to not operate after seeing the "sports hernia doctor" the beginning of August for what is obvious to have included the diagnosis of sports hernia and likely a concommitant hip problem. As I said back during the beginnings of his problem, he should have been rested immediately and definitively treated so that he would be available by the 2nd half of the season when the most important run would occur. As it turns out, injured Mario has had very sparing isolated glimpses of greatness and has overal made quite pedestrian contributions to the season. This is consistent with what could have been expected with what has recently been admitted to.

The Texans' organization decision making tree has been defective down the line in every aspect of the game.........including in the most important, the medical.

Doctor,

Granted, and you were very strong in your opinon at the time. It didn't happen. Now that this track has been taken, is this something that surgery will correct and Mario, after rehab, return 100% or will he ever be the same?

Is the medical staff the Texans are currently using the same ones that they had back in '02?

Pretty much so, except for Dr Tom Clanton their foot and ankle specialist, who last year moved his practice to Vail, Colorado

He evidently EXTENDED his injury into an acute surgical problem. With an appropriate early 4-8 week rest and rehab, it is very likely that Mario could have recovered to play out most of the regular schedule in good condition.......and avoided the need for surgery.
 
With Williams out, Kubiak said that second-year defensive end Tim Jamison is “about to play a great deal.” Antoine Caldwell will step into the starting lineup for Brisiel, who injured his right calf against the Ravens. Brisiel started nine games this season.

Anderson injured his left shoulder on Monday while attempting to make a leaping catch in the fourth quarter. He finishes the season with 11 catches for 117 yards. His departure creates an immediate opportunity for rookie wide receiver Dorin Dickerson, a seventh-round pick out of Pittsburgh who has played sparingly.

With roster spots to fill, the Texans signed defensive tackle DeMario Pressley from the New Orleans Saints' practice squad and wide receiver Derrick Townsel from their own practice squad.

Pressley was a fifth-round draft pick in 2008 from North Carolina State. He played in nine games for the Saints last season. Townsel is an undrafted rookie from Murray State who has kick return ability.

“Townsel deserves the right to be on the active (roster),” Kubiak said. “When kids work for you all season like that, to get rewarded at the end, to get on the active roster, I know the team is excited for him.”

The Texans also signed center Brett Helms and wide receiver Montez Billings to their practice squad. Rookie defensive tackle Malcolm Sheppard left the Texans’ practice squad earlier this week to sign with the Tennessee Titans.

I thought so. Don't you find it disheartening to see the same type of diagnosis year after year that appears to be faulty over time? How can they continue to recommend that the player can play, when it is in the player's best interest to rest an injury, or have an early surgery to facilitate a sooner return? Do you think they are being pressured to recommend what the coach wants to hear? Or are they merely incompetant?

And if Dr. Clanton (who I know) were still with the Texans, he would have shut AJ down immediately after his initial high ankle sprain and given him the 6 week rest and rehab he required. If you think that AJ's had a great year, you need to realistically think of how totally unstoppable he would have been with TWO fully operational ankles.

Pressure is a significant factor that the Texans non physician FO place (along with player's avid desire to play, with ignorance of what the realistic impact on their performance, career and post playing days really are), but as much as I would hate to say, more that a pinch of incompetence and medical soul and ethics-selling seems to be also playing a role.
