We don't need an extra LB with two probowl LBs, we need at least 4 DBs who can cover though.

for whatever reason Texans have never valued FS position enough to draft one early. It sure would have been nice if they could have moved up like San Diego moved up for Ryan Mathews, targeting Earl Thomas, UT....

or traded up in 2nd for Nate Allen. they even could have just stayed pat or moved back & taken Morgan Burnett GB traded up to early 3rd #71 to take him.

Predicted Round: Round 2

Blessed with protoytpical size. But don't expect teams to wait long to nab a natural playmaker like Burnett. Read & React: Reliable instincts for the position. Diagnoses the play and accelerates quickly to the ball, showing little wasted motion. Understands his role as the last line of defense and takes good angles to limit the damage. Zone Coverage: An alert zone defender, Burnett understands his role and the role of his teammates. Run Support: Willing and active in run support. Attacks the line of scrimmage, but will take questionable angles to the ball and is too often forced to re-direct at the last moment and latch on for a drag-down tackle, rather than applying a forceful pop. Willing to take on blockers, but prefers to elude and make the tackle himself.
First thing Texans need to figure out is who will be coaching & calling the shots. Then they will assess the current roster talent @ each position. I can't see keeping Barber or Molden any longer so this may help move FS position higher in FA/Draft needs. I also think they should make the move with McManis to see if he fits the bill as at least depth @ FS. He has about the right size, long wingspan & cover ability over Wilson or Nolan. Then they will need to deceide if they want Kareem & Quinn to be their starting CB's?

Agreed, who's calling the shots means everything. Assume its Cowher, he switches to a 3/4 defense. How many pieces need to be added? IYO

I think that the NT should be a vet signed in FA with Mitchell,Lewis and a 4/5th rd draft pick in the 4/5th rd. That will get you by for a couple of yrs. Signing a cheap vet S like Whitner and drafting a S in rd 3/4 would be the way to go. IMHO

The Texans are very thin at OLB. How do you feel about drafting Miller at pick # 8 or so?

A guy that I like as an OLB that can be had later in the draft is Bruce Miller OLB UCF. He has a chance to be a good 3/4 OLB.

The best chance of getting multiple draft picks in this draft is to be picking 5th and trading down to a team like Cleveland for A.J. Green. Even though the Texans need defense in the worst way if Green was there at #5 I would take him if a trade down opportunity doesn't arise.

What rd do you think the compensation pick for Dunta will be? 'm thinking 3rd. If that's the case it would be huge. You could fill both S spots in that rd. My favorites that will probably be avaiable are the Fla. S Black and Hill. They would both be huge upgrades over what the Texans currently have at the S position.

IŽd be thrilled if we could get either Peterson, Amukamara or Fairley. We could put Peterson at FS, or move KJ or Quinn over to FS.

Signing some big FAs like Champ Bailey or a big DT would certainly help.

In the later rounds we should look at OLB, O-Line help, another safety and maybe a WR.

2. Patrick Peterson, DB, LSU - 6'1 - 222 Don't think he will end up this high, but man its gonna be fun to watch him play on Sundays
3. A.J. Green, WR, Georgia - 6'4 - 212 Love his big play capability, next Moss.
4. Prince Amukamara, DB, Nebraska - 6'1 - 205
Tenacious cover corner, has ability to be shutdown type.
5. Da'Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson - 6'4 - 280 Most explosive DE in draft with size to match.
6. Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn - 6'5 - 298 Came on strong this season for #1 Auburn, high motor DT.
7. Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama - 6'3 - 306 Could play the nose, But fits the 4-3 UT position perfectly. disruptive size & speed @ point of attack.
8. Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina - 6'5 - 268 Some think he's the next Peppers, must be more consistant.
9. Jake Locker, QB, Washington - 6'3 - 230
Everything the Pro's look for size, arm strength & mobility.
10. Cameron Newton, QB, Auburn - 6'6 - 250 Similar to Locker, but far more athletic. however have some character concerns?
11. Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa - 6'4" - 285
Despite down year can fit a 3-4 DE or 4-3 DE.
12. Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State - 6'1 - 205 If he returns to Cowboys will be a Top 10 pick next draft. But right now ahead of Dez Bryant @ same stage if he comes out.
13. Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon State - 6'1 - 311
Maybe a little high but kid is a terrific, high motor, instinctive & strong DT.
14. Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas - 6'6 - 238 Some are going to love him others hate him, has mad game.
15. Von Miller, DE, Texas A&M - 6'3 - 243
Another reach here but gotta support Texas Football. Can play OLB in 3-4 or RDE in a 4-3.
16. Brandon Harris, CB, Miami - 5'11 - 195 Most are saying he is the 3rd best CB in the draft. Looks the part but not as productive as one would like this high.
17. Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama - 5'10 - 215 Heck of a RB this late, could go higher to a team needing a true #1.
18. Allen Bailey, DE, Miami - 6'4 - 288
All the talent in the world to dominate, but inconsistant at best.
19. Derek Sherrod, OT, Mississippi State - 6'5 - 305
Matter of system who is the top tackle but once selected they could start dropping like flys.
20. Julio Jones, WR, Alabama - 6'4 - 220 A steal here, love the way he uses body position to protect the ball, very smart well coached WR. Could easliy be sold on moving him higher per team needs.
21. Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue - 6'4 - 263
Ourlads has Ryan rated the #1 senior prospect, take it for what its worth.
22. Tyron Smith, OT USC - 6-6 - 290
Recently threw his name into the draft, a top LT prospect.
23. Cameron Jordan, DE, California - 6'4 - 283
Expect him to rise up board because of athletic ability/combine.
24. Aaron Williams, CB, Texas - 6'1 - 192
Once again a little home cook'in, but he does play the coveted CB position.
25. Akeem Ayers, LB, UCLA - 6'4 - 255 Great playmaker, think of a quicker, stronger DeMeco Ryans.
26. Drake Nevis, DT LSU - 6'1 - 295
Would be a great addition for the Texans if he slips into 2nd rd. changed him to 1st rd. based off his outstanding DT play in SEC.
27. Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Pittsburgh - 6'5 - 230
Great size speed combination like Pitt alum Fitzgerald.
28. Nate Solder, OT, Colorado - 6'9 - 315
Some think he is the best tackle because of his size advantage & quick footwork.
29. Janoris Jenkins, CB, Florida - 5'11 - 186 Can really lock down when needed, pretty solid end of 1st CB.
30. Stefen Wisniewski, C/OG, Penn State, 6'3 298
Sticking with Wisniewski, off production & pedigree, one of the safest bets in this draft class.
31. Rahim Moore, FS, UCLA - 6'1 - 195 Will help his draft stock with excellent forty, show great range on tape, playmaking ability & size for NFL FS position.
32. J.J. Watts, DE/DT, Wisconsin - 6'6 - 290 Sleeper pick who could rise up every 3-4 teams board.
Should just mention, there are several underclassman included who have yet to officially declare early entry into the NFL 2011 Draft pool. I will highlight those in bold. Once offiical will return to normal font while others who decline will need to be replaced with new prospect. I shall try to keep up but would appreciate everyones input if they have anything to add...

For example: Aaron Williams, CB UT & Tyron Smith, OT USC have announced they're coming out.

how would everybody feel if the Texans addressed DL with Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon State? If our draft board is close to accurate it's not that much of a stretch (we have him ranked #13) to address a primary need on defense. I doubt Fairley or Dareus are still options picking 11th.

If he's there

With the 11th pick in the NFL draft the Houston Texans select

Von Miller LB TX. A&M

BTW, he would be a good pick.

This would be a terrible pick. Even switching to the 3-4, this is a reach. And unless we switch, it's a horrible pick. Even then, it's like drafting Duane Brown or Babin in the first round. That bad.

I think he would be a good pick for us in the 1st regardless of whether we run a 4-3 or a 3-4. He might be a little light (310 to 315) for a 3-4 NT but I hear he is very strong. Wouldn't mind getting him and the Oklahoma FS in the first 2 rounds.

Anyone else want to re-work our Big Board? obviously we need to start with #1. Haven't heard if Peterson has made annoucement, should declare after game Friday. Could a WR be rated #1 (AJ Green) or DT (Fairley/Dareus) maybe DE (Bowers/Quinn)?

Why don't we wait until after the deadling for declaring? Then we will know for sure who is coming out and who is staying.

1. Once you have a Big Board that you like all you have to do is delete any underclassmen that stay in school. That shouldn't have any basis on prospects jumping one another unless you do updates after watching more players, workouts, etc.

2. Best prospect is best prospect. I totally could see AJ Green being up there. Calvin Johnson was the #1 prospect in 2007 (IMO).
