Default guards and centers

just wanted to see what ya'll think about a couple of these guys

first on my list is the former nebraska phenom Richie Incognito here is what draftdaddy.com had to say about him:

"...However despite his possible all-pro skills, Richie has some serious character flaws that could result in a "Barrett Robbins" blow-up at any time. High-risk/high-reward player who's college production will probably be too good to ignore on draft day. Our take is that the NFL is not made of choirboys and Richie is probably salvagable - if he wants to be."

i got a chance to see this kid play more than once and i'll be the first to say...with a strong o-line coach and someone who can take this young man under their "wing" he could be a real steal for us...but there are a lof of if's in there

next is Evan Mathias from alabama...at 6'5'' 304 he is in the same mold as former Green Bay guard Wahle...very experienced and lineman from the SEC have a strong track record

C.J. Brooks from Maryland...now maybe i don't know what he did to drop his draft stock but i remember last year at this time he was thought to be in the top 3 guards this year...at 6'5'' 309 he has the size, experience, and athletic ability to transform into a solid pro guard or tackle...probably a 4th rounder

Adam Synder from Oregan...6'5'' 316 guy has been labeled as a tough, smart, strong technician who could turn into a very solid guard in the pros

the only reason i bring these guys up is because for years now there hasn't been a good class of interior lineman and i hope that casserly picks up atleast one guard or center in this draft...these are guys who could be picked up in the third or fourth round who i believe in two years time could be starting for us full time

I really like Incognito and Mathis. I've seen Incognito play a couple times, and he's a tremendous talent. His risk is high, and I'm not sure if the Texans would take a risk like that on the 1st day of the draft. Mathis is the tough grinder type of Guard that you look for on a running team. I'd love to see Mathis in a Texans jersey come April 25th. He may not have as high of a ceiling as Incognito, but he's definately a safer pick. I'd be torn on who to pick if both were there in the 4th.

to be honest if they were both available in the 4th round and we hadn't picked a lineman yet i'd be taking incognito because of his talent...i think the risk is well worth the reward in the fourth round...you gotta think that his problems are a lot like romanowski's he likes to fight which i believe with a strong head coach that can be corrected

Hasn't Incognito had a lot of injury problems? Didn't he collapse doing drills at the combine when his knee gave way?

I'd take Mathis. His numbers for his explosive force... the combined numbers for his bench press, broad jump and vertical jump were through the roof and he is very, very fast.

I don't think the Texans would take Incognito with the final pick of the seventh round.

There are some guys with character issues that teams don't even put on their draft boards, regardless of their talent.

no icognito has no real injury problems...just character issues...i agree mathias is the safer pick but with less in return...if capers and the other o-lineman we have can keep him in check he could mature and develop into a serious pro bowler...cause without the character issues we're talking about a sure first rounder and the top o-line prospect...i mean just look at this pic

Based on his actions, could we be talking ROID rage here? Sure has the look of it. Of course he could be bi-polar which can look pretty similar. Anyone know if he has been diagnosed with a mental disorder?

not sure about he roid rage...possibility though...doing some more research on evan mathias here...if you didn't want him before you will now...all this is from draftdaddy.com who is one of the few reliable sources on ccollege players

Talking about players that really helped themselves at the combine, that conversation has to include Alabama guard Evan Mathis. He came in incredible shape and completely blew the doors off most of his competition. This coupled with his outstanding play at Alabama has him soaring up draft boards. I recently had the opportunity to speak with Evan and have him answer a couple questions.

DD: What are your height, weight, forty time?

EM: 6'5" 311 currently

Combine numbers...
Bench = 35 reps 2nd for OL
40 time = 4.90-4.97 2nd for OL
20 yd shuttle = 4.16 1st for OL
3 cone = 7.37 1st for OL
Vertical = 35.5 2nd for OL
Broad jump = 9'9" 1st for OL

DD: For those that might not have seen you play, describe your game.

EM: I'm always on the right man and no matter where the ball is I'm trying to maul him. I finish just past the whistle on every play in insure that my job was done. I get to the second level and run with linebackers to make the crucial blocks to spring the running back. In both the run game and pass game I try to be a technician when it comes to footwork and hand placement. I have a mean streak and start playing dirty sometimes in the heat of the battle.

DD: What qualities will you bring to an NFL locker room?

EM: I try to always maintain a positive attitude and come to practice and games fully prepared and rested. I lead by example by being in the right place at the right time and doing and saying the right things. When necessary I get vocal and express my thoughts and feelings to my teammates and coaches. The one thing that I strive to do is just win. With that, everything else just falls into place.

that is just part of the interview...if you want to see the rest go here
