I was thinking the same thing but...

Queen.

-The most powerful piece on the board
-Diagonal moves - slashing in the running game
- Horizontal moves - catching the ball out of the backfield

I would say Schaub is the King. Limited mobility, requires strong supporting cast, if he leaves the game, we lose.

Foster is the Queen. Most versatile player, can take apart defenses. Best offensive weapon

AJ is the Rook; not limited to either white or black squares like the bishop. Can stretch the field and is also great in setting blocks and taking away defenses so the Queen can do the most damage.

This. I guess that would make Derrick Ward and Kevin Walter our knights; you never see them coming until they have you in check. Dreesen is our bishop...

I wasn't trying to relate them to how the actual pieces move in regard to the players abilities....you're right on on how you rated it.

I was relating them in order of rep and importance to the pieces.

King: Matt Schaub. Lose him and the game is over.

Queen: Arian Foster. Most versatile player.

Rook1: Mario Williams: Powerful DE
Rook2: Brian Cushing: Powerful OLB

Knight1: Vonta Leach: shifty FB who can move in space and pick up tough yards, block, and even make a key catch or two
Knight2: Derrick Ward: one cut RB that powers through if given a space

Bishop1: Owen Daniels: can slice through a d if given space
Bishop2:Joel Dreesen: not quite as good as OD, but still solid

Pawn1: Jacoby Jones. Should be more valuable but keeps droppin passes
Pawn2: James Casey: Not given a chance to do more
Pawn3: Antonie Smith: an important piece of the D that can make the difference between a W or L
Pawn4: Kevin Walter: given a chance and a seem he can make a big play
Pawn5:Neil Rackers: fgs and kickoffs are an underated but impt aspect, just like pawns
Pawn6: Antonine Caldwell: Need someone to do the unsung dirty work of the pawn
Pawn7: Kareem Jackson: has been improving, but at the moment is a pawn in the opposing offensive schemes
Pawn8:Bernard Pollard: his ineffectiveness in pass coverage allow him to be schemed to and taken out of the game plan: just like a pawn.

He is the rook cus all he knows how to do is go in straight lines, usually forward.

I chose Rook because sometimes he goes one space forward, and other times he goes the whole length of the field. I think AJ would make sense as the Queen, as he seems to be the one to make the big plays when the game is on the line, ie he's more important. I think a lot of Arian's running room can be attributed to the coverage AJ gets.

O line does not translate to chess very well. The O line essentially protects the QB and creates holes for the RB. There is no chess piece that directly translates to pure protection.
