Default The Texans want my opinion. Are they effing kidding me?

I just got an email from the Texans asking me to take a survey and give my opinions on how to make things better as a fan. They do this regularly with season ticket holders, so it's not surprising.

But, what's amazing is the timing of these things. Last year, these morons sent the survey out after the Monday night Titans game. I kid you not. THEN, this year, they sent it out - I'm not kidding - after the Giants game.

The problem with these things is that they always want to know about experiences at Reliant and being a fan, then say that I shouldn't count on-the-field performance in my thinking. I'm sorry, but, what happens on the field defintely counts towards game day experiences.

The truth is, the gameday experience at Reliant is almost flawless. But I'm not going to tell them that with the way this team is performing. It's irrelevant.

So, now, they're going to get a bunch of skewed data from angry fans.

I swear, the Texans marketing team is a bunch of morons.

Vinny always used to say that the Houston Texans are a marketing company with a football division. And here you go.

I wish I'd get that survey. I'd only have one reply: The Chin.

You should tell them the gameday experience is almost flawless other than the crappy defensive coordinator and boneheaded head coaching calls. If they want to fix something, that's what they should fix.

Just link them to the Redkins reporter going bonkers and tell them to replace the word "Redskins" with "Texans"; "Shannahan" with "Kubiak"; etc

Update: The survey earlier this year was from JD Power and Associates. This was from the team itself. I guess they hire an outside firm, as well as do their own internal survey every year.

They asked a ton of things, and actually asked how satisfied I was with the teams on-field performance by the players.

I slammed them.

Did you even read my post? They sent me the survey TODAY. Like 15 minutes ago. When they sent the survey earlier this year, I responded immediately. My timing is not off.

Easy does it.

Your original post made it sound like the only survey sent out this year was one right after the Giants game. I re-read and re-re-read your original post, and I can see how it's unclear as to how many surveys you've received (and the timing of each survey).

I am glad you got to state your opinion on the on-the-field performance. Hopefully, there will be thousands of other similar responses by ticket holders who want to see a major change occur.

The best way, I would think, would be to NOT renew your season tickets. Just DON'T renew them. Everybody refuse to renew your season tickets, with the plan of buying game-by-game individual tickets. This will cause a panic by the penny-pinchers of the Texans, and THAT is how an owner will see that he's got to do something different.

That guy is motivated by whether the bottom line is in danger or not. If he sees that the fans are fleeing the mother ship, you can bet your butt he's going to fire Kubiak and try to "sell" you on renewing your tickets by hiring a new coach. Otherwise, just renew your tickets and watch McNair go about things at a leisurely pace. Like a stroll in the park.

I know you guys might fear not being able to get back on the list or what not, but I doubt there's going to be any problem getting your PSL back in a year or two. Until then, enjoy the monetary savings and only spend what you want to spend according to each game at Reliant that you might or might not want to attend.

Imagine if enough PSL owners got together and started a campaign to NOT renew their tickets. I think it would accelerate Kubiak's departure. Just my two cents. And I'm not a PSL owner, so I don't know if there are down payments/security deposits you gotta' put up in advance, which would make dropping the PSL and picking it back up again a really painful experience.

I'm just saying that Bob McNair sees things in green. Not saying he's an evil guy. Just saying that revenue is what he places the most trust in. if the revenue is still steady, he's going to want to keep things stable until the fans revolt and vote with their pocketbooks. Otherwise, like I said earlier, just watch Bob take the pace of a tortoise on firing Kubiak and hiring someone else. It's his track record. It is what it is.

Fair enough. I wrote my original post hastily and in anger, so I can see where someone would be confused by the number of surveys I have recieved (though, I did state in the first line, I just recieved a survey...).

Yeah, you know, you are correct. I almost did not renew my tickets this year. I was furious about Kubiak's extension. It took me a while to get over that.

Yes, there is an initial downpayment due fairly early. But, it's only 10 percent. Last year, my down payment was like $70. So, if I change my mind, I'd be out $70, but that's a small price to pay, to be honest.

I'm a big fan of going to the game if you can afford it. It's a really great experience. However, for the first time, I'm thinking about buying a 40-inch high def tv, watching the games at home and calling it a day.

I usually complain about food and drink prices. Otherwise, I really like the Reliant Gameday Experience.

I think food quality is sub par, but we NEVER eat inside so I've never had reason to seek out the special food vendors other than the north end zone with their nachos and pretzels.

You have to remember that they survey you on things they can control. They can control the parking, the clenlyness of the bathrooms, and the helpfulness of the ushers. What they won't ask is about the game because they can't control it. The game is the game.

I swear, the Texans marketing team is a bunch of morons.
So you believe it would be more competent/intelligent/useful for them to prepare the surveys and then wait until a particular game is deemed (by the person in charge of deeming those kinds of things) to have not generated much in the way of either positive or negative reaction from the fans and release the surveys at that point in time?

I'm thinking that marketing 101 would tell you that you don't get the best results that way.

(and just the fact the the villification of everything Texan has now spilled over into the marketing division is either very funny or very sad - not sure which).

You know the Houston Texans Update e-mails we all get regularly? At the bottom there is an subscription opt out link. If all of a sudden fans would cancel their subscriptions at about the same time, the front office would definitely take note. This maneuver would not necessitate any further action on the part of those that don't wish to go further such as not go to games or renew season tickets...............but it would leave those potentials in the back of the Texans office's mind.............including Mr. McNair. McNair et al have always thought (and have always been given reason to think) they, the fans, will get over it. "Let them eat cake." Well, now it's beyond dry and crusty. It's time they have a bite themselves.

1) Marketing 101 also tells you you can't use skewed data, as I stated before. That's what they're getting by doing surveys after major losses. You have to either do them more often - either after wins AND losses - or wait until the end of the season.

2) Yes, I am allowed to villify their marketing department. They are terrible and clearly tone deaf.

So if they have a annual plan that outlines survey release dates, data collection dates, the logistics of the analysis of the responses, and the followup to that analysis, they are supposed to change everything because a game turned out badly (or goodly as the case maybe)?

No, but marketing plans can be tweaked and adjusted. Happens all the time. Maybe they decide to survey us more often, to try and get a better idea of how we are feeling.
