Given what the schedule looks like, I'm guessing that there is going to be a lot of Texans grumpy talk out there on a variety of subjects. I think some of the grumpy talk is really sensible and some of it is a bit unhinged which makes most sports sites a bit unpleasant these days.
I collected some of the grumpy talk in one place so that I could just send people to that link instead of repeating myself. Figured I'd share this because some of it might reflect your point of view or you might have a different point of view that is worth memorializing in that spot. I think blog posts are often good time capsules of a particular time period. I went back into the time machine and put links to older blog posts in this that are relevant to the grumpy subjects, and then want the current link to serve as a time capsule for the future. I'd like to invite people with a variety of points of view on things to put there comments there: The post where we talk about grumpy things about the Texans I like looking back at these blog posts every once in a while to refresh folks on what fan thinking was at a particular time. gets an appearance too.

Awesome and yet "vomity" at the same time. I couldn't even bring myself to reply.
I still can't get the sound of Gus Johnson having an orgasm on television out of my head, either...

Excellent read that hopefully puts things into perspective for some of the more unhinged among us.
You are spot on with the disgust I feel for people rooting against the team. Just today some soaper was saying he couldn't wait for the Texans to be eliminated from the playoffs. ![]() I think I need a nice long break from the absurd caricature that Texans talk has become.

'eh, it's the sad by-product of a perpetual crappy franchise. 9-7 not withstanding (which wasn't that impressive of a 9-7 to begin with, all things considered), the fact remains that Houston Texans fans are some of the most loyal fans in the NFL. Just look at the annual renewal of optimism and strong season ticket sails for reference.
We are a glutton for punishment, but we obviously love us some NFL. However, I am slowly coming to the realization, an awakening of sorts, that it's a near-abusive one-sided relationship. We give the team our money and they give us promises that will eventually be broken in return. And then we line up a year later and do it again. It's very bizarre, and to be quite honest, against my nature and better judgment. I think I need my head checked this next off-season, perhaps take some kind of sanity tests, just to make sure that my elevator still goes to the top floor of my building. |

Really for me, the thing I've consistently enjoyed the most out of my Texans fandom is just the cool people I've met out of the fanbase that I wouldn't have otherwise met. I don't know what the Texans future is going to be, but I know Texan fans are big fun, even when we are semi-unhinged.

Glad I didn't listen to Vandemeer. If a Texans announcer is heard spewing anything other than bloody vomit at that point, he's wrong.

I'm not rooting against the Texans, but I sure as hell want Kubiak fired...oh well, this is exactly what happened during Capers' last season. (Key word, "last season") So if this becomes Kubiak's last season, the end justifies the means. |

And, of course, group therapy has been in order for 8+ seasons with the Texans. It is definitely the friends that I've made on these boards and tailgating that makes it all worthwhile. Quote:

I'm sailing in the same boat as you. I'm not rooting against the Texans. To the contrary, I am dying to see them become successful. In this case, I'm rooting for change. Much. Needed. Change. |

Don't root for just plain old change. Root for the right change. Sometimes that is hard to know one way or another. /Obama'd

I've seen several people claim that if you're a "real" fan, you should root for the Texans to lose, since that will ultimately make them better. I hate that.
Great post Steph, I enjoyed the read. |

When a baker takes a cake out of the oven and sees that it fell, he should not fret over the time and and wasted ingredients put into that cake by trying to cover it with more frosting. He throws it away and starts making a new cake, saving the frosting for the cake worth eating. He continues this process until he has a cake worthy of the wedding. Folks, it's time to accept that Kubiak's cake has fallen and turned to mush. Drafting more ingredients for a vomity cake is not going to make it taste any better, but rather just waste more ingredients. It's time for a new baker in this kitchen. |
