Texans Stats Breakdown Week 1-9

I finally got the stats program to run on cumulative data. Interesting stats to look at:

Our pass:run ratio is 280:209. So much for the run setting up the pass.

When we start from our own 20 we get a TD 20% of the time. From our own opponents 40 or better: we score a TD 80% of the time

Arian Foster is averaging 4.5+ ypc to every side of the field except to the RT where he's sub 4 ypc. Foster's yards per carry is 5.7 in the 4th quarter.

Our second best receiver on the team? J. Jones? K. Walter? Nope, it's Arian Foster and he averages 8 yards per throw to him.

On defense: teams are averaging a 66% completion rate against us. And with 8.2 yards per attempt, it's pretty easy to see our pass defense gives up tons of yards.

Jacoby averages 8 yards more per kickoff return than Slaton. with average starting field position at our 30 yard line compared to Slaton who's only good for a touchback.

No kidding. And we would be idiots not to lock him up for a long term deal. With AJ hurt he's clearly our best player, and somehow we don't manage to get him the ball as much as we need to most of the season.

Someone proposed a fantasy league trade to me today: I give Arian Foster for Fred Jackson.

I didn't know Smithiak was in my fantasy league until then.

The O-line deserves as much( if not more) credit as Foster. They've been pretty beast. He does some great things with what they give him, but he gets a lot of free yards from their blocking.

Foster has probably saved Kubiak and Bush's jobs for the time being. Without Foster this team probably has 2-3 wins instead of 4.

Could be tricky. The Texans GM is better at hanging tough and getting nothing done then getting fair contracts negotiated.

Not to mention Vonta. He's having a pro bowl season. If Foster goes, I think Vonta should be blocking for him there too.

I'll tell you a stat. Derrick Ward averages more per carry than Foster. I don't remember the exact numbers, but they're not hard to find.

Not trying to say it really means anything, but we got a serious back-up.

The average is higher, but so is the volatility. A bad outcome (incomplete, interception) is much more likely when you pass.

Foster has made the initial tackler miss consistently. This is the same line that got nothing done in '09. The difference is Arian Foster.

I'll agree the difference is Arian Foster, but that OL was blocking very well over the last 8 or 9 games. Just didn't have a running back with the balance of vision, speed, burst, balance, & ability to read the line.

Wade Smith has been a pleasant surprise in the run blocking department. I have to give some credit to the line.

But yeah Foster has still been a revelation and probably would've propelled us to the playoffs if he was in last year after we figured out that Brown/Moats/Slaton all together did not really equal 1 good RB.

The differemce has been Foster and Ward.
The line was terrible, just like in 08, it was all Slaton!
