Indiana agency investigating death of Notre Dame videographer

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) -- Workplace safety officials on Thursday were investigating the death of a Notre Dame student who was videotaping football practice when the tower he was in toppled as high wind gust swept through Indiana.

I saw this story on the morning news. How sad, and how irresponsible that he was up there during the high winds.

I am not much for lawsuits, but the family has a very valid case.

Folks, scissor lifts are meant for construction jobsites - not video taping.

It was only a matter of time before something like this happened. Whether in the Pro's, collegiately or at the high school level, teams need to construct a permanent tower structure to film from.

Sad but totally preventable.

Ok this is really bad and should not have happened but then again:

- why did he post on facebook that it was scary but yet did NOT come down?

Did someone make him go up there?

Hey, I would have been down - well, in reality, I never would have been up there in the first place.

But, I am not a 20 yr old kid who is thrilled to have the job of filming the football team and doesn't want to bring himself to the attention of the head coach by asking to come down.

I am all for personal responsibility, and I thought about your point when I read the article, but can see how it would be hard for him to beg to come down in front of the team and coaches.

I bet he got some really good perks for doing this. And being apart of the ND football program. He didnt know it would topple over. I dont think any of us would have given all that up.

The team practiced insided on Tuesday because of highwinds. Why wasn't practice held the same way one day later? What ashame. Thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the victim.

The manufacturer of a similar lift said its not designed or safe to use with winds over 25 mph. Winds were gusting over 50 the day it toppled.

Someone is going to get hit hard for this I think.

Im guessing they told him it was safe.

Roller coasters are scary as hell, but if they tell me its safe, Im down for the fun

I wonder if he was taping when it collapsed. If so I wonder how long before that footage gets posted on the internet.
