Default Accountability: Should McNair make a public statement...

I wish McNair would make a public statement regarding his expectations for this season. Basically, come out and say that if we do not make the playoffs or have a very good record, that changes will be made.

At this point I'm not sure exactly what our owner expects of this team. Is average, or barely getting better, good enough for him? To this point, he hasn't shown that he holds anyone accountable for mediocrity, and waits for it to get truly horrific before he is willing to change things up.

To a certain extent, as the owner goes, so goes the rest of the team and the fans. If we know that our owner expects nothing less than greatness, then we will expect that also.

don't think your going to get that, especially after a WIN. defense blows, yes, but its awful hard to win in this league and the bottom line is, they did that today and another three times before today, 4-2 going into the bye is good, however you look at it.

I'm not bringing this up as a reaction to this game. After the 3rd-straight similar season last year, I just have no clue as to what our owner expects. I didn't necessarily think Kubiak should have been gone after last year, but he darn well should have been on thin ice. This should be a "put up or shut up" year, period. However, I'm not sure that it is. And that frustrates me as I'm gonna have a hard time continuously supporting this team year after year if I'm not sure McNair has the same lofty expectations that most of us fans have.

For now, the team has "put up." As long as we have a winning record, McNair will never threaten the coach.

I know the D sux. Everybody knows it. We're still winning so far.

Despite a 4-2 start, I presently predict this team to finish 9-7 or worse. Maybe when we are 7-7 McNair will say something, but then the last two wins will save Kubiak's job. It doesn't help that we are tied for the hardest schedule in the league. They need to stop screwing us around like that. Did we go to the SB last year? NO! So why do we have the toughest schedule in the league??????????????

Dude, first off Kubiak gave this franchise thier first winning season in our history. Secondly, I think everyone knows that Kubiak is on thin ice. BUT, if we go 10-6 or 11-5 and DONT make the playoffs, would you really want Kubes fired? You would be a fool if you did. Not sure if you realize how much it sets a team back if you replace a head coach/coaching staff. I would be willing to stick with him assuming we improve from last year.

Yes our defense sucks, yes our offense is inconsistent but the fact remains we are 4-2 thru our first 6 games AND our main problem in the past is we would always start slow.

Every team, no matter who they are have weaknesses, ours happens to be our defense, but we somehow have managed a VERY respectable schedule run thus far.

Im happy with where we are right now. Am I satisfied? Not in the least, and I dont think the Smithak is either. Only thing you can do is work with what you got and adjust from there which if you ask me, we have done that this season.

Take a sip of the kool-aid, enjoy the win, and if your like me; go ahead and bang your head thru the wall next Sunday when Texans arent playing.

The schedule is a matter of chance that those teams are good. I can show you who our opponents are thru 2016 if you would like. Its not like one guy is making the schedules here. We face conferences that rotate every year.

I mean, did anyone think KC would be threatening when we saw them on our schedule this past off season?

You cant control who is good when you get them on your schedule.

Unless somebody is getting canned making a public statement is only going to undermine the coaches and make things worse.

Now if he wants to come out and say Frank is gone and he'll be interviewing for the position on Monday... go right ahead.

Dude, first off it doesn't matter what Kubiak has done. It matters where he can take us. Secondly, I do not know that Kubiak is on thin ice. A contract extension doesn't exactly lead me to believe that that is true. Also, work a little reading comprehension in. Re-read my first post regarding making the playoffs OR having a good record. Lastly, you need to clue in to recent NFL history. It is VERY possible to turn things around in one year after a coaching change, especially when we have a decent nucleus. See the recent Dolphins, Falcons, etc. The idea that changing a coaching staff sets a team back is a fallacy.

What would McNair accomplish by coming out and saying playoffs or fired? Why would he do that? To do anything but show full support for the current staff would just be throwing them under the buss. You don't do that in any business.

Agreed, thanks for the second opinion.

Not only would that be absolutely ridiculous but it would probably have this message board explode due to pissed off rants on how our owner just made a jackass out of himself and our whole organization.

The only public statement he should issue if any at all should be a congrats to our team for beating a very formidable opponent and scraping out another come from behind victory.

I never suggested he come out and say "playoffs or fired." I said "playoffs, better record, or changes would be made." That doesn't mean calling out any by name or insinuating that it is any particular person or group. It could be head coach, coordinators, assistants, players, or front office personnel. And it should be those responsible for us not taking a step forward.

The reason he should do it is that it lets me know, as a fan, that mediocrity will not be tolerated. And that he cares.

I'm not really a fan of coaches, owners, etc. "throwing others under the bus" and calling them out by name, publicly, except in the most extreme circumstances. I do like it, though, when they say "things had better get better or something is going to change." What that change should be can be determined at the appropriate time.

You don't get rid of coaches mid-year. That's it.

Again, why would anyone do that when your team is 4-2?????

You may have a leg to stand if we were 2-4 but as of right now it is an outlandish request for an owner to say anything of that sorts when your team is leading the division.
