McCoy to have number retired

Less than a year after throwing the final pass of his University of Texas football career, Colt McCoy will have one of the school's highest football honors bestowed upon him at the end of this month.

Provided he survives his first career NFL start this weekend against fellow UT alum Casey Hampton and the Pittsburgh Steelers, McCoy will have his No. 12 jersey retired prior to the Oct. 30 game against Baylor. McCoy's NFL team, the Cleveland Browns, is on a bye that weekend, creating the window for an honor that's previously been given to just five other Longhorns in the school's storied history.

"I was just overwhelmed, humbled and psyched when I was told about his," McCoy said in a statement. "It's a dream come true!

"This is such a tremendous honor, but it's not about me. It's about all the great coaches that helped me develop as a player and a man, the tremendous teammates that made my job so much easier and the most supportive family anyone could ask for."

"We're very, very proud of Colt and every time we look at his name in the upper part of the stadium with the other great names that have played for The University of Texas, we'll be proud of him, proud of his team and proud of their accomplishments," head coach Mack Brown said.

McCoy will join Earl Campbell (No. 20), Bobby Layne (11), Tommy Nobis (60), Ricky Williams (34) and Vince Young (10) as the six football players who've had their number retired.

I wouldn't say camoflauged, more like compensated, especially last year when him and Shipley were the offense.

I don't mind Mack as a HC, he is what he is, lights out recruiter and a mediocre head coach.

Davis....well I'm sure youand I both could go on for pages about his ineptitude as an OC.

I'm just really hoping Muschamp sticks around long enough to become the HC.

From what a lot about what I read is that Davis just runs the offense the way that Mack wants him to. I hear from some that Davis would like to be a lot more aggressive, but Mack is the guy that wants to be so conservative and the guy who wants to run the ball so much now. I'll never like Mack as a coach. He's cost Texas National Championship bids in the past. I would not be surprised if Mack hands it up after next year. He would then slide into AD and Muschamp slides into the Head Coach/DEf Coach and Major climbs into the Offensive coordinator spot.

Man, that would be a dream come true for me, but sadly I don't see Mack retiring from coaching any time soon. He still seems pretty energetic and hasn't given any type of time table as to when he'll retire. I think he'll keep coaching for a while honestly. Whenever he does go though, GD is right there with him. UT was going to fire GD many years ago and Mack said that he would quit if GD was fired. That is his main man and his puppet. GD will always be here as long as Mack is.

I'd love to see Mack as the AD though. That's a position that he's perfect for. He's just not a good X's and O's coach and never has been. He's a great recruiter, but he has zero intensity and acts more like a grandfather to his players than he does as a hard nosed coach.

I love Will Muschamp though. He's everything I like about a coach. He's smart, he's fiery, and his players love to play for him. He makes you energetic and excited as a fan. If Mack does not go this year, than Muschamp does unfortunately.

This won't be a good year for Mack and I think he knows it. I think next year they challenge and he slides over after a great season. I don't think he wants to leave on a sour year like this one.

Plus, the man will be 60 before the first game next year. I can see him shifting over.

Interesting facts here. People do forget that he led a team that only lost one game in two years which was on a last play of the game against TT where Colt had just led his team down the field to take the lead and his defense gave it away. The Bama game, he did not play in so that doesn't even count. Colt was amazing when you consider how bad GD's scheme and play calling is. He's easily up there with names like Layne, Ricky Williams, James Street, and VY.
