2010 Super Bowl

So, the NYJ will possibly get to host in 2010... was 2009 ever decided? Wasn't Houston getting another soon?

Updating ongoing reports, according to NewYorkJets.com, NFL owners, who are currently holding their annual meetings in Maui, are prepared to vote on awarding the 2010 Super Bowl to New York. The bid would require that the game is played in an indoor stadium and is contingent on the New York Jets gaining approval to build the New York Sports and Convention Center on Manhattan's West Side. Commissioner Paul Tagliabue, along with several team owners, supports staging a Super Bowl in New York and the NFL's Super Bowl committee has unanimously agreed. The Jets are scheduled to make a presentation to all 32 team owners Wednesday, March 23, in an effort to obtain conditional approval for the 2010 Super Bowl.

I never heard a final decision of the 2009 Super Bowl...

I think it's good to see teams like the Jets and Lions get super bowls after year of having to deal with the Miami, New Orleans, San Diego rotation...

Don't remember where I heard or read it a few days ago, but evidently Miami and San Diego are making a pitch that they and another California venue should become a regular rotation for the SB (they conspicuously left New Orleans out of the proposal) and say they will build all sorts of extra facilities for hosting SB events if the NFL will grant the rotation. IMO that is a horrible idea. With all the teams/cities that have committed to building new stadiums there are plenty of suitable venues and the NFL should be going toward allowing fans from as many cities as possible participate in the experience of hosting a SB. I understand leaving out venues like Lambeau, Three Rivers and the Patriots stadium--it is dang cold that time of year and I guess for those teams it is the trade off of home field advantage late in the season and in the play-offs vs. getting a SB.

Isn't that a May decision. Supposed to be primarily a battle between Houston and Atlanta .. per John McClain and radio media people.

I would personally rather go to Miami than Detroit for a Super Bowl. I think that the Super Bowl should be reserved for the the Sun Belt. The best locations IMO for Super Bowls are Tampa, Miami, New Orleans, Phoenix, LA, and San Diego. Houston is close behind but we cannot assure nice weather and we don't have the culture of New Orleans. Dallas and Atlanta might pull it off. It seems like it can get very cold in Atlanta in February though. I wouldn't mind seeing a 4 year rotation with Southeast (Miami/Tampa/Jacksonville/Atlanta with Miami and Tampa getting most of them), South Central (New Orleans/Houston/Dallas with New Orleans getting the bulk of them), Southwest (California or Phoenix) and the 4th is for new stadiums.

Nick Eatman, of DallasCowboys.com, reports the Dallas Cowboys are believed to be the frontrunner to host the 2011 Super Bowl, assuming the new $650 stadium in Arlington, Texas, complete with a retractable roof, is completed by 2009. The 2011 Super Bowl site isn't likely to be voted on until next year.
