Did anyone happen to record the Texans come from behind win at Redskins. I will pay someone to burn it on DVD for me if at all possible. I thought I had my DVR set but didn't. I had to listen to it on the road and all I could see was the overtime part. PM me if this can be done.

Sorry, man. I've got it recorded but I don't know how to burn a DVD from my DVR and I don't really have the equipment to do it.
I think it costs $50 to get NFL Rewind. You could at least watch it from there. |

If anyone routinely pulls off a DishNetwork DVR to DVD I'd love to hear what equipment is necessary and how to do it.

I plan on burning this whole season, including the preseason games I still have. A friend of mine is watching the Redskins DVD I burned him, since he only saw the first half before having to be somewhere Sunday evening. He knows we won, saw some highlights, but I told him he doesn't COMPREHEND how awesome of an experience it was to see it all unfold over the course of the second half and then into overtime. If anybody would like to PM me and discuss Texans football games, in greater detail, please feel free to do so.

1. From the back of the DirecTV DVR, you run a set of RCA cables (the red, white, and yellow-ended cables) to your TV. NOTE: I choose to run an HDMI cable to my TV, instead of RCA cables, because it obviously carries a better video signal to the TV. 2. From the back of the DirecTV DVR, you run a set of RCA cables to the VHS-DVD combo. This is your "burn" cable. 3. From the back of the VHS-DVD combo, you run yet ANOTHER set of RCA cables to the RCA input of your TV. This is so you can see, on your tv, what you're burning to disc. 4. Buy a pack of DVD-R (don't buy the +R version of recordable DVDs). 5. When you put the disc into the DVD tray, you have to do two things: (A) Select the TV input that will display the signal coming from your DVD player. (B) Select what type of quality you want (such as SP, EP, LP). The shorter your recording time, the better the quality. 6. Pull up the game off DirecTV (or Dish) and hit PLAY. Then hit the Record button on your DVD player. I usually let it record overnight or while gone to work, so if the game is 2:30 in length...I hit the special record button until it's to the 2:30 point. After recording for 2 hrs and 30 mins, it will shut off by itself. 7. Then, when it's finished up, you gotta' hit the Setup button on the DVD remote control. Choose the finalize option, so it finalizes the disc. If ya don't, it won't play on anybody's DVD player. I found that the discs do not play on computers very well, but tend to playback on regular DVD players OK. I hope that helps anybody who wants to go buy a DVD burner. I think I might try to research the possibility of an HD DVD burner. Are there special HD DVDs, or do you end up using the regular discs? And is the quality worth it? This is an area I want to upgrade but have never fully researched.

If I were going to burn the DVDs, I'd want to burn them HD. Right now, I just don't have the equipment to do that. However, what I DID do was to buy a Terrabyte hard drive and hook it up to my HD DVR via the eSATA port. This gives me enough room to record an entire season's worth of games and about 50 movies (give or take) and still have enough room to record whatever TV shows we want to watch. Now, I just wish I'd bought a 2 Terrabyte drive.

I need to clarify, though it should be obvious...
The back of a DirecTV DVR has TWO of the RCA outputs. So one output could be used for the signal to your TV, which is what you use to normally view shows. The other RCA output terminal(s) is what you use to send the DVR signal to the VHS-DVD recorder. NOTE: I only use ONE set of RCA output terminal(s), which goes to the VHS-DVD recorder, since I am using an HDMI cable for my normal DVR-to-TV signal. Lastly, you're running a set of RCA cables from the output terminal(s) of your VHS-DVD recorder to the RCA input terminal(s) of your TV so you can see what the heck you're about to burn from your DVR to your DVD. You will need at least 2 sets of RCA cables (these are the ones that have a red end, a white end, and a yellow end). The third set of RCA cables would be used only if you don't use an HDMI cable or an S-Video cable to carry your DVR signal to the TV. ------------- There will be quality loss when you record from an HD source, such as an HD DVR receiver-to-a-DVD recorder. You're going from an HD picture to a Standard picture that exists with normal VHS-DVD recorders. I plan on upgrading to HD DVD burning, but need to research first. I will come back and try to post the results in the graphics/tech forum here. And maybe give a shout out in the TexansTalk football forum (here) to let people know how it turned out.
