Redskins CB Hall says he should be covering top WR

ASHBURN, Va. – Washington Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall says he knows what his team needs to do to win: have him cover each opponent's top receiver.

Hall says Monday it doesn't matter what Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett thinks because, Hall says, "This is my team; this is my defense."

Washington allowed Houston's Matt Schaub to throw for 497 yards and three touchdowns in the Texans' 30-27 overtime victory Sunday.

That included a game-tying, 34-yard scoring pass to Andre Johnson on fourth-and-10 with 2:03 left in regulation. Cornerback Phillip Buchanon and safety Reed Doughty were in coverage; Hall was lined up on the other side of the field.

"Won't happen like that again," Hall says. "If Andre Johnson's out there, I'm going to be out there."

During NFL Replay, the closed captioning says that DeAngelo Hall said...

I hadn't played Andre in the league. I played him in college. This is my first time going against him in the league. I gave him a lot of profit during the game. Didn't really scare me. He didn't do anything spectacular. Didn't do anything to make me feel like he was the best.

Please tell me the captioning screwed up bad. I mean... obviously profit is inaccurate but jeez... I once clamored for the services of Hall.

As a player and competitor if you dont want to take on the best and be the best .... you may as well get off the field.


That said , I dont think he has a snowball's chance in hell of stopping AJ without help , nor does any DB in the NFL. With the way the rules favor recievers in todays NFL along with his size , speed and skills ..... Its nearly impossible.

It amazed me for years at how over hyped D. Hall was. The guy had a great rookie season where he got a few TO's and had a big mouth and the media acted like this guy was one of the best CB's in the league for several years, and he was never even close. He's a terrible cover corner that takes way to many chances and routinely gets burned. I've watched him get embarrassed by a number of players actually, and when even AL Davis cuts you as fast as he did, that says a lot. And this is just about him being overrated, I haven't even begun to talk about what a jerk off the guy is and how detrimental he's been to his team at times with his tantrums and off the wall antics that have caused a lot of penalties.

Him trying to act like he should be holding AJ is a joke. They're not even in the same dimension as far as being effective at their positions. Hell, the Skins have never even had enough confidence to make Hall a cover corner. He plays mainly in the nickel.

Michael Irvin on 610 (Josh Ennes Show) compared D. Hall to a boxer who received a knockout blow and got up all dazed and confused saying that guy doesn't have ******, when asked about Hall's comments on AJ doing nothing to show who the best WR in the game was.

Yep, agree completely. Perhaps this is just me, but I think Hall and Cromartie have a lot in common. Both of them have had some amazing seasons, but they both get abused as well. Neither are good cover corners although they can certainly pull of the highlight play every now and then. To make matters worse, Hall is a complete douche off the field.

The play where Johnson hurt his ankle? It was Hall pulling him out of bounds. Johnson ended up having a power catch nullified and then penalized for going out of bounds.
