Default Sanders out for a while

I don't like guys getting hurt and having to miss a good part of the season, but since it happens, this is a good thing for Houston, now with a suspect run D and now the leader is out again...

Indianapolis Colts safety Bob Sanders has a torn biceps tendon and is out indefinitely, if not for the season, two team sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

It is not the same arm in which Sanders had the biceps tendon tear last season. He is scheduled to visit Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday to help determine how long he will be out.

Sanders, the league's 2007 defensive player of the year, was injured on the Texans' first offensive series when a pass was deflected by Colts safety Antoine Bethea into Sanders' face mask.

Sanders left his feet and landed awkwardly on his arm.

The Colts were fine last year without him in the secondary. Melvin Bullit (from Texans A&M) was a capable backup in his place. I wouldn't be surprised if they let him go this year. He is past his prime and isn't worth the roster spot given his last 2 years of injuries. It sucks for the Colts but that's the reality of the situation.

It would be friggin awesome if he got cut and then the Texans picked him up for cheap and he dominated again without getting hurt.

And monkeys might fly outta my butt....

...No seriously. He's done. ESPN said he's missed 10+ games 5 times in a 7 year career.

Yep. He only played in two games last season, iirc.

If this is a distal tear (the more unsual side to tear, usually torn from the bone), he will be advised that surgery is not optional and return to play will be around 6 months. If it is a proximal tear (about 97% of biceps tendon tears), it depends if its partial vs complete, one head vs two, which will determine nonoperative vs operative approach. Recovery could be anywhere from 3 months to 6 months before back to full action. My guess, watching the game, his injury will require closer to 6 months. Unless he has a partial one head tear, he's definitely gone for the season.

I agree. 5'8" 200 lbs going full speed against 6'0 or better and 210 or better is not going to be healthy very much. He is a great player ( or was ) but I think the toast is done.

I had a left distal biceps tendon tear. It was a good 6 mos before I was back to operational and probably 18 mos before it got back to "normal."

Looks pretty awesome when the bicep slides up the friggin arm like this:

I cringed when I saw he had a bicep tendon tear. I feel his pain.

Yeh, I've seem quite a few of these, the biceps typically rolls up like a roller shade. The more muscular the patient, the more dramatic the deformity. Bad injury........especially if you are a football safety.

Don't know if you saw it or not, but in the Buy / Sell thread, I asked "Buy / Sell Bob Sanders finishes the game"....

I didn't know that I should've asked "Buy / Sell Bob Sanders finishes this game and / or the season"...

It's a shame because he's a whale of a football player but apparently pretty fragile. He's constantly hurt.

That was exactly how it went. Heard the tendon pop and watched the muscle slide right up.

The repair is painful as all get out, too.

If I remember correctly, Ted Johnson (linebacker for the Pats) ruptured both of his. Not at the same time, but both of them nonetheless. He continued to play after the repairs.

He's played in 9 games since 2007. Hell of a player when he's healthy...at least he was. I don't think anyone knows how good he can be anymore.

The dude's been a non-factor for the Colts for some time now. We hung a 250 burger on them and some people blame the loss of Sanders.

The dude just doesn't have the body to withstand the way he plays.

Sanders has become the Bill Walton of the NFL. He's a great player but he could get hurt eating breakfast.

Nobody in their right mind thinks Bob Sanders could make it through breakfast unscathed!

If I remember correctly, I believe that a biceps tendon injury ended Sanders' 2009 season. I'm not for sure, but I believe it was his other side.

EDIT: just looked looked it up. It was also a DISTAL tendon rupture and it was a left rupture. This one is a right rupture. The guy is not blessed.
