to active roster. Didnt see this posted anywhere, Rookie corner from Texas Tech drafted and cut by the Cowboys. Im a student at Tech and went to the same high school he did so Im pretty pumped that he is going to my favorite NFL team.

So why was he cut by the Cowboys? Teams usually don't cut any of their draft picks until well after their rookie season?

I like the move. Jamar Wall is a very physical corner and fits the Texans defense. He loves coming up in coverage and delivering the big hit so much that he could potentially shift to free safety if need be (see links in above posts). He was a three year starter at Tech so he's well experienced against some top flight WRs. He can get beat deep from time to time and my main knock against the guy is he will get turned around in the wrong direction or be found out of place. However, he is very active in coverage all the way down field and is great at getting a hand in to break up passes. He's also a good character player, he never got in trouble while at Tech (not that I know of).

Overview
One of the more underrated players at his position, Wall was named second-team all-conference after he made 58 tackles, intercepted two passes, broke up 15 others, and forced two fumbles.

Wall had very similar numbers with five interceptions and six pass breakups as a sophomore. As a true freshman he contributed primarily on special teams, but stepped in because of injuries to deflect two passes.

Wall is a good athlete who had a storied high school career where he ran for over 2,000 yards in both his junior and senior seasons.

Though a bit shorter than scouts prefer, Wall's stocky build, athleticism, aggressive play and sure tackling make him a potential starting zone corner in the NFL and worthwhile Saturday draft pick.

Analysis
Read & React: Reads the body language and routes of receivers. Gets too aggressive, biting on pump fakes and double moves, but rarely is fooled twice. Attacks running plays to his side. Gets to other receivers when a teammate loses track of them.

Man Coverage: Coverage skills made opponents wary of throwing at Wall. Usually plays off in press-bail coverage, but he has the long arms and strong arms to be physical with receivers coming off the line. Good backpedal -- stays low and quick. Capable of sticking to his man in coverage on any route. Will be out-muscled downfield by larger receivers. Offenses try to take advantage of his lack of height in the red zone, but he has the vertical to compete against taller receivers.

Zone Coverage: Was left on an island in Tech's defense, but displays headiness and good change-of-direction ability to close on underneath routes.

Closing/Recovery: Reacts to the ball in the air, takes the correct angle when attacking the receiver to separate the ball from its target or secure the tackle. Good recovery speed after biting on double moves, but will resort to bumping receivers instead of trusting his speed.

Run Support: Usually positioned off the line, but does not tackle like a converted running back. Closes on the run quickly and wraps up consistently. Uses long arms and strength to stay clear or rip off most receiver blocks, but forces action inside if he can't disengage.

Tackling: Likes to hit, puts ballcarriers on the ground with a strong shoulder. Generally solid tackling in space, does not need to resort to cut tackling to bring down backs or receivers. Misses tackles occasionally when trying to make a hit. Should be an outstanding special teams gunner because of his speed and aggressiveness.

Intangibles: Does not back down from a challenge. Teammates respect his hard work and coaches trust him to be in the right spot and make the big play. Ran for 477 yards on 20 kickoff returns in 2008 and could get a chance there in training camp because of his strong running style.

Wall struggled during training camp and preseason games and was behind Cletis Gordon and Bryan McCann, who were also cut. The Cowboys picked Wall in the sixth round of April's draft.

240!? I think you must have meant 204. He was listed as 203 on a TT site.

240? hes around the 200 mark. He played mostly soft zone coverage in college so he had to adapt to playing man coverage in the pros...he has average speed too so he will get beat deep. Hes very physical though and a big time hitter, I think he is better fit for safety but is an above average corner and I can really see him helping out the Texans.

Bryan McCann returned kicks for the Cowboys in the preseason but was signed to Baltimore's 53-man roster. Four players whom the Cowboys released Saturday landed with other teams: cornerbacks Bryan McCann of SMU (Baltimore) and Jamar Wall (Houston), and defensive linemen Marcus Dixon (New York Jets) and Junior Siavii (Seattle ). Only Siavii played for the Cowboys last season, backing up Pro Bowl nose tackle Jay Ratliff.

The Cowboys had offered practice squad spots to McCann and Wall. With their departures, Dallas has four cornerbacks in the organization: Terence Newman , Mike Jenkins and Orlando Scandrick on the 53-man roster, and inexperienced Teddy Williams on the practice squad.

Best Asset: The competition Wall saw in college will prepare him more so than maybe any college cornerback heading into the NFL. Wall went head-to-head in practice against former Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree throughout college. Wall said Crabtree has similarities to Dez Bryant, and he said his one-on-one matchups with Crabtree made him a much better cornerback.

You Should Know: The first time Wall primarily played cornerback was at Texas Tech after being a prominent running back in high school. He said he grew tired of being hit all the time and wanted to provide the hits himself. . . . and then you have a draft pick who didn't make the team (Cowboys) while 2 UDFAs did.

I think it was more of a special teams move...

I wasn't that pleased with our kick coverage and special teams play. I think the two players we claimed off waivers will help out alot on special teams.....both of these guys can run and tackle.
