Default Ok, I've changed my mind

Preseason has to go. I was very much opposed to an 18 game regular season but tonight I finally had to face something that I think all Texans fans probably deal with on a yearly basis.

If two more regular season games will bring an end to having to listen to Spencer Tillman talk two weeks sooner than usual then I'm for it. Sure, there's probably a downside to an 18 game schedule but damn!

As for the game...

We sucked it bad tonight. The defense in particular never showed up. That's unsettling to say the least.

The Trindon Holliday experiment is over as far as I'm concerned (which means nothing to the Texans but there it is). He looks like a guy who's overwhelmed at this level. Unless they want to spend a year babying him on the practice squad to see if they can get him through it I don't think he'll make it. That's not as far fetched as it sounds.

I'm still not a Dan Orlovsky fan but this week he looked almost as good as the UDFA "3" that New Orleans found and put on the practice squad for a year. That kind of makes our handing $9.15 million dollars for a project 3rd stringer a little stupid but spilled milk and all.

Arian Foster screwed up with the fumble and he'll catch some deserved crap for it when they get back to Houston. He caused that fumble and he'd better understand that and fix it.

Steve Slaton looks less and less viable every week but then he's not playing with the 1's this week much if any so it's hard to tell. He looks pretty returning kicks though so at least we won't be in too deep a pile of poo when they cut Trindon.

Jeremiah Johnson is playing in garbage time with the 3's so he's even harder to figure out. I still suspect though that he and Foster will end up being our best two backs when it's all said and done.

My biggest concern though was the Spencer Tillman problem. We need to put a stop to that whatever it takes.

At least he's refrained from the "apple-and-a-roadmap" reference. That
was one hell of a drinking game.

Joel Meyers anyone? He can't even get the players' names right. It is frustrating enough to watch the team perform like that, but to also put up with the worst announcers since EVER makes it even more frustrating...

Marc Vandermeer, Andre Ware?

Andre said they were just tired and can't learn much from a game like this.

Spencer Tillman I believe referred to Jeremiah Johnson as Jeremiah Wright.

I'd wondered where Obama's old preacher had gone.

He was horrible. Kept saying the Jackson missed a tackle - near the beginning of the game - when he was the one who actually tackled the RB.

If you are going to be undersized , then refer to the old saying , it's not the size of the dog in the fight , it's the size of the fight in the dog . Our dog didn't want to fight .

this is in no way condoning the actions of one Michael Vick , it's just a sying .

Five Stages of Grief: Texans Vomit on Bourbon Street

I actually waited seven days with anticipation and excitement to spend three hours watching that fiasco last night. Wow! Days like that are on opportunity to re-examine my priorities. After all, it appeared last night that I cared more about football than about 65 of the Texan players on the field. The best spin that I could put on that performance, other than “well, it’s just preseason” is… umm,..well… Forget it! I’m still too irritated with that embarrassing performance to do those mental gymnastics right now. Oh, and by the way, today is one day that I simply can’t defend Coach Kubiak. His performance was as bad as any of the players. More on Kubiak later! Grief is a complicated process. On a day like today, it is the mission of TBB to assist our readers as we work through each of the five stages of guilt (Denial/isolation, anger, bargaining, depression, and finally acceptance). Let’s work through it together!

Barrett and I are watched the game last night. Actually, we both had a busy evening and agreed to watch it at 10pm on the DVR. We are quite mentally ill so we took extensive steps to ensure we make it to 10pm without being spoiled. He actually chastised me at about 9:30 pm when I mentioned that one of our mutual friends attempted to call me. He is so sick in the head that he became tormented by questions like “was Joey calling to rub in the bad loss” or “is he empathising with us because Andre Johnson broke his leg” and many more questions that are best left unexplored. Actually, to be honest, I was doing the exact same thing (turns out the phone call was entirely unrelated to football… crazy as that seems on a night when there are 11 NFL preseason games). Well, we did it. We made it to 10pm, turned on the DVR, and began watching the game. Very little was said to one another after the Trindon Holliday fumble. We began to isolate ourselves and questions like “how can this happen” were the only things heard for the rest of the first half.

(On a side note, Spencer Tillman and that other twirp become totally insufferable when things go array)

Those announcers were possibly the worst two I have ever heard.

Their man-love for the Saints got old fast.
