Carlton Thompson, of the Houston Chronicle, reports the Houston Texans have reached a one-year, $540,000 deal with free agent LB Frank Chamberlin (Bengals).

6' 1" -- 238 lbs. Looks like he spent last season on IR for a torn bicep. Incidentally, wore #55 in Cinncy. Originally a 5th round draft pick by Tennessee.

Smart player, career reserve type. If he makes the team it will be for his special teams play. Quincy Monk and Shantee Orr probably battle him for the last LB spot.

Looks like the Titans were able to get more out of him than the Bengals did.

Chamberlin stats About 27 years old now. He was 79th overall in total tackles during his last high point in 2002.

why does the team seem to only want reserve players and no starters besides Greenwood? Is it a money issue or do the coachs think that all the pieces are in place.

FA is actually a better place to sure up your reserves than find high end players. You get value there. Generally, you are overpaying for average to maybe good players because most of the elite players are retained by their original team. The first Patriots Bowl team was full of yawn(boring) signings that did not cost a ton of money.

Well, they appear to me to have wanted Orlando Pace. They didn't get him but they tried to. This tells me that if there was someone out there right now who the Texans thought they really needed, they'd go get him.

I don't think it's money, I think that more of "the pieces" are in place than most fans think. I've got a really good feeling about 2005 and beyond.

i agree you should more or less try and get quality reserve guys through free agency rather than starters...usually these guys don't pan out or are often injuried...the draft is where you find your quality starters
