Orlovsky 8-14-10

If I'm the HC, and I'm not satisfied with the development of my primary back-up QB, I will make sure he takes a major amount of snaps in our first preseason game.

So, this is a theory that I have.

If Kubiak is satisfied with DanO, he'll see two, maybe three series this Saturday. If Kubiak is not happy with our primary back-up, he'll play 4 or more series.

I would expect to see Schaub for one or two series, Dan-O for at least a half, and Booty for whatever is left.

I expect Dan -O will play at least half the game in any case.

In '08 (Sage's final year as a Texan), Schaub played 1 possession in the first preseason game, Sage came in and played the rest of the 1st half, and the first series of the 2nd half (or about a half) and then Boyd came in .

Last year, Schaub played two series (which took the entire 1st quarter), then Orlovsky came in and played the 2nd and 3rd quarters (or about a half) before Grossman came in.

Two different backup situations, pretty much the same amount of time given to each #2 (at the time) QB. I'm thinking Orlovsky gets about a half this Saturday.

So that pretty much kills my theory. We'll probably see about a half of DanO regardless.

I think DanO needs to spend three quarters out there.

I like the fact that we are all going to get some Booty in the second half...

You won't see Booty until the 4th quarter. DanO needs all the reps he can get. I just don't see Orlovsky, being paid all the money he is and has a year of training under him being 3rd fiddle again. IMO you will see a whole lot of Orlovsky this pre-season.

The inconsistency he's shown thus far in camp, he needs to play the rest of the game after Schaub. I understand that won't happen, but good grief, he's pissed me off every practice I've been to. I hope he can get his mind right and just play ball, but it hasn't been a very promising camp for him.

Didn't we keep 3 QB's last yr?

Maybe we do the same thing again this yr...I hope we wouldn't have to, but who knows...

I haven't heard Kubiak comment on how many he'd like to keep this year

IMO, Orlsovsky need ever snap he can get. Bring Schaub in for a quarter last pre-season and he should be good to go. Last season had to really boost Matt's confidence.

Kubiak followed up on his comments about Dan Orlovsky from Monday by saying that the backup quarterback will play “at least two quarters” against the Cardinals. "Protect the football,” Kubiak said of what he most wants to see out of Orlovsky. “When he’s throwing it, protect it. Protect the team by protecting the ball. We’ve got to get rid of that one bad play out of 10, so that’s what we’re trying to focus on.”
