Powering up: Five teams can balance attacks with big backs
Quote:
Arian Foster, Houston Texans
Why he's needed: Despite having the top passing offense and No. 4 overall offense, Houston was 10th in scoring and 25th in red zone scoring efficiency last season. In particular, the Texans struggled to move the ball in goal-to-go situations. Part of that stemmed from having the league's 30th-ranked rushing attack.
What he can do to help: With rookie Ben Tate struggling with hamstring problems and falling behind quickly, Foster is lining up with the first team, ahead of Steve Slaton. Foster has a good chance early to fill the void of a feature workhorse. The undrafted second-year player out of Tennessee is impressing Texans coach Gary Kubiak by getting the most out of a 6-1, 225-pound frame.
"He's more professional, he knows what he's doing, and he's getting a great opportunity," Kubiak said last week. "He's much better about his work and the way he goes about his business every day."
