Texans re-sign Deloach
www.HoustonTexans.com HOUSTON - The Houston Texans announced today that they have re-signed free agent DL Jerry Deloach. Deloach (6-2, 335) played in 15 games, starting three in 2004. He was forced into a reserve role where he accounted for 49 tackles and one batted pass after the Texans acquired DE Robaire Smith in free agency during the 2004 off-season. Deloach missed his first game as a Texans player at Kansas City on 9/26/04. Prior to that game, he started every game (34 games) on the Texans defensive line. The four year pro has managed 261 tackles, one sack and one fumble recovery during his Texans career (2002-04). The Texans received Deloach in the team's first trade when they dealt QB Danny Wuerffel to the Washington Redskins. During his rookie season, Deloach recorded 11 tackles and one sack. The former undrafted free agent from California has started at both nose tackle and defensive end in the Texans 3-4 scheme. Following are the free agents the Texans have signed from other teams: LB Morlon Greenwood (6-0, 238) Last Team: Miami CB Lewis Sanders (6-1, 210) Last Team: Cleveland Following are the free agents the Texans have re-signed: FB Jarrod Baxter (6-1, 243) CB Jason Bell (6-0, 186) DL Jerry Deloach (6-2, 335) CB Demarcus Faggins (5-10, 178) NT Junior Ioane (6-4, 332) FB Moran Norris (6-1, 250) NT Seth Payne (6-4, 315) LB DaShon Polk (6-2, 240) DE Corey Sears (6-3, 319) FS Jason Simmons (5-9, 198)

Does this mean that we won't be pursuing Rocky Bernard because now we already have the 6 man DL limit? Personally I would like to see some new blood in the rotation and hopefully we aquire that through the draft because even though I expect the DL to improve from last year, its still the same personnel group and that's what worries me. What are the terms of the contract and what is the cap hit?

right on. i still think that we should still go after DL depth early (first day?) in the draft. castillo, hawthorne, ellison, etc...

I'm glad we re-signed DeLoach. He may not be a home run hitter but he is a good player and he knows the system. Like others I am concerned about the lack of a big name addition to our o-line and d-line but at this point I have faith in Charley and the boys. I don't feel like we have taken any steps back so with a draft like we have had the last three years we should be standing tall come August and with no big FA moves our cap number should be OK next year too. I welcome back all our free agents and hope they are ready to fight their butts off to keep their jobs come time for training camp.

is that not sarcasim ??? I sure hope so, i mean i'm happy with Marlon, and Sanders, and a few of our previous players we re-signed, but i still dont feel they are adressing this teams main concerns so far, maybe they are waiting for the draft !!! Who knows ???

This is an important signing to be sure. I think DeLoach started almost all games in '02 & '03 (with Payne & Walker) and has experience at both End
& Nose. And he's still relatively young - turns 28 in July. Haven't seen any numbers on his contract ? Guess the Texans will release that info sooner or later. |

I hope the team brings in some more d-line men, people seem to preform better when they are fighting for their job.
